Ingredients
- 2 quarts chocolate ice cream, freshly churned or softened
- 1 recipe Hot Fudge Sauce, prepared and cooled
- 24 Oreo cookies, finely chopped
- 2 quarts vanilla ice cream, freshly churned or softened
- For the Whipped Cream Frosting:
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

%20a%20hockey%20player.%20It%20was%20a%20foregone%20conclusion%20that%20the%20cake%20would%20be%20a%20standard%20quarter%20sheet%20cake%20with%20traditional%20icing.%20Somewhere%20around%20middle%20school,%20I%20realized%20that%20regular%20cake%20just%20didn%E2%80%99t%20really%20do%20much%20for%20me;%20instead,%20I%20much%20preferred%20the%20ever-popular%20ice%20cream%20cakes%20from%20Dairy%20Queen%20%E2%80%93%20layers%20of%20chocolate%20and%20vanilla%20ice%20cream%20sandwiching%20a%20fudge%20and%20chocolate%20crunch%20filling.%20It%20was%20amazing,%20and%20it%20was%20the%20only%20birthday%20cake%20I%20requested%20through%20high%20school%20and%20beyond.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20much%20as%20I%20love%20it,%20however,%20I%20always%20thought%20that%20the%20cake%20could%20stand%20to%20have%20that%20fudge%20filling%20at%20least%20doubled,%20and%20maybe%20a%20bit%20more%20of%20the%20chocolate%20crunchies,%20as%20well%E2%80%A6%20but%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20want%20the%20crunchies%20quite%20so%E2%80%A6%20crunchy.%20What%20to%20do?%20Create%20my%20own%20version%20at%20home,%20of%20course.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20used%20a%20springform%20pan%20to%20layer%20chocolate%20ice%20cream%20on%20the%20bottom,%20then%20top%20with%20my%20homemade%20hot%20fudge%20sauce,%20which%20I%20could%20seriously%20eat%20with%20a%20spoon.%20As%20for%20the%20chocolate%20crunch%20layer,%20I%20wanted%20a%20larger%20layer,%20but%20like%20I%20said,%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20want%20them%20quite%20as%20crunchy.%20To%20solve%20that%20issue,%20I%20chopped%20up%20Oreo%20cookies,%20cream%20center%20included.%20The%20cream%20center%20kept%20the%20chopped%20up%20cookies%20softer%20once%20they%20were%20frozen,%20so%20it%20was%20a%20perfect%20solution.%20On%20top%20of%20that,%20I%20layered%20the%20vanilla%20ice%20cream%20and%20covered%20with%20whole%20cake%20in%20a%20whipped%20cream%20frosting%20and%20garnished%20with%20rainbow%20sprinkles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20ecstatic%20about%20how%20this%20turned%20out,%20and%20that%20I%20could%20finally%20have%20the%20DQ%20ice%20cream%20cake%20I%E2%80%99d%20always%20wanted%20with%20a%20super%20thick%20hot%20fudge%20layer%20and%20lots%20of%20soft%20chocolate%20crunchies%20(that%20might%20be%20an%20oxymoron!).%20I%20served%20it%20for%20dessert%20on%20Sunday;%20everyone%20absolutely%20loved%20it%20and%20said%20it%20was%20amazing%20(better!)%20knock%20off%20than%20the%20original.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20ice%20cream%20cake%20is%20your%20jam,%20this%20would%20make%20a%20perfect%20summer%20dessert!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20year%20ago:%20Cheesy%20Bacon,%20Mushroom%20&%20Spinach%20Breakfast%20Strata%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETwo%20years%20ago:%2010%20of%20the%20Best%20Zucchini%20Recipes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFour%20years%20ago:%20Date,%20Rum%20&%20Pecan%20Ice%20Cream%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFive%20years%20ago:%20Southern%20Banana%20Pudding%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESix%20years%20ago:%20Seven-Layer%20Bars%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESeven%20years%20ago:%20Eclairs%20and%20Cream%20Puffs%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHomemade%20Dairy%20Queen%20Ice%20Cream%20Cake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYield:%208%20to%2010%20servings%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPrep%20Time:%201%20hour%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETotal%20Time:%208%20hours%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20copycat%20of%20my%20favorite%20DQ%20ice%20cream%20cake,%20complete%20with%20a%20fudge%20filling%20and%20chocolate%20crunchies!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20Cake:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Lightly%20butter%20a%209-inch%20springform%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Spread%20the%20chocolate%20ice%20cream%20into%20an%20even%20layer%20in%20the%20bottom%20of%20the%20springform%20pan.%20Place%20in%20the%20freezer%20for%2030%20minutes.%20Spread%20the%20hot%20fudge%20sauce%20over%20the%20chocolate%20ice%20cream%20(if%20it%20had%20been%20chilled,%20you'll%20need%20to%20rewarm%20briefly),%20then%20sprinkle%20the%20chopped%20Oreo%20cookies,%20pressing%20lightly%20so%20that%20they%20adhere%20to%20the%20hot%20fudge.%20Return%20to%20the%20freezer%20for%20at%20least%2030%20minutes.%20Lastly,%20dollop%20the%20vanilla%20ice%20cream%20over%20the%20chopped%20Oreos%20and%20gently%20spread%20into%20an%20even%20layer.%20Freeze%20for%20at%20least%208%20hours,%20or%20overnight.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20At%20least%201%20hour%20(and%20no%20more%20than%2012%20hours)%20before%20serving,%20unmold%20the%20cake.%20To%20release%20the%20cake%20from%20the%20pan,%20invert%20the%20cake%20onto%20a%20plate%20or%20cardboard%20round%20the%20same%20size%20and%20wrap%20a%20hot%20kitchen%20towel%20around%20the%20cake%20pan,%20keeping%20it%20there%20for%2030%20seconds,%20or%20until%20the%20cake%20loosens,%20and%20slide%20the%20pan%20off.%20Remove%20the%20bottom%20of%20pan.%20Top%20with%20a%20serving%20plate%20and%20turn%20the%20cake%20right%20side%20up.%20Return%20to%20the%20freezer%20for%20at%20least%2010%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20While%20the%20cake%20is%20in%20the%20freezer,%20make%20the%20whipped%20cream.%20Combine%20the%20heavy%20cream,%20sugar%20and%20vanilla%20extract%20in%20the%20bowl%20of%20a%20stand%20mixer.%20Using%20the%20whisk%20attachment,%20whip%20on%20medium-high%20speed%20until%20the%20cream%20is%20light%20and%20fluffy%20and%20holds%20a%20medium%20to%20firm%20peak,%202%20to%203%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20Spread%20the%20whipped%20cream%20on%20the%20cake,%20working%20quickly%20so%20that%20the%20ice%20cream%20doesn't%20melt.%20(If%20it%20gets%20soft,%20just%20pop%20it%20back%20into%20the%20freezer%20for%205%20minutes.)%20I%20used%20a%20Wilton%20%2321%20decorating%20tip%20to%20pipe%20a%20shell%20border%20around%20the%20top%20and%20bottom%20of%20the%20cake.%20Decorate%20with%20sprinkles%20on%20top,%20if%20desired.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6.%20Remove%20the%20cake%20from%20the%20freezer%205%20minutes%20before%20serving%20to%20soften%20it%20slightly.%20A%20hot,%20dry%20knife%20will%20yield%20the%20cleanest%20cuts.%20Dip%20your%20knife%20in%20a%20glass%20of%20hot%20water,%20wipe%20it%20clean%20with%20a%20towel,%20and%20cut%20a%20slice.%20Repeat%20between%20every%20slice.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
