Hearty New England Clam Chowder

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bacon, cut up
  • 3 green onions, minced
  • 5 med. potatoes, cut in cubes
  • 2 tbsp. minced green pepper
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 clove garlic (mashed) or possibly garlic salt
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 c. minced or possibly grnd raw clams
  • 1 pt. half & half

Directions

  1. In large heavy skillet, saute/fry bacon till crisp. Add in onions, potatoes, green pepper, celery, carrot and garlic. Pour in water and season with salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Cover pan and simmer 15 min or possibly till potatoes are tender. Mash mix slightly. In a separate pan heat clams in own juice for 3 min. Add in clams and lowfat milk. Stir well then heat till piping warm.
