Cowboy cooking used to consist of beans and hardtack with maybe some freshly butchered T-bones thrown in a skillet over a campfire. Then Chef Tim Love introduced contemporary cowboy cuisine at his Lonesome Dove Western Bistro located in the Ft. Worth Stockyards. We have dined at Chef Tim Love’s Lonesome Dove and loved it.
Now we do not have to drive to Ft. Worth for this experience. We can simply Go West .
Go West is our own contemporary cowboy cuisine restaurant located only 20 minutes away from our front door. It is all about the history of the West too. The décor is truly upscale Western and I love their postcards. (What is up with restaurants and post cards? Whatever it is, I love this new trend.)

%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGo%20West%20%20is%20in%20the%20Avalon%20Steakhouse%20old%20location%20which%20itself%20had%20some%20history.%20Avalon%20had%20a%20one-time%20rough%20reputation.%20Because%20of%20the%20bizarre%20liquor%20laws%20in%20Oklahoma,%20it%20packed%20up%20and%20moved%20across%20county%20lines%20in%20the%2060s.%20It%20shut%20down%20in%202009.%20Go%20West%20has%20elevated%20the%20atmosphere%20and%20cuisine,%20but%20I%20like%20to%20think%20that%20they%20still%20have%20a%20bit%20of%20the%20wildness%20that%20was%20once%20the%20Avalon%20tradition.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20read%20in%20local%20publications%20and%20reviews%20%20that%20Go%20West%20is%20%E2%80%9Cthe%20best%20restaurant%20that%20you%20have%20never%20visited.%E2%80%9D%20That%20is%20probably%20a%20true%20statement.%20Because%20of%20the%20location%20(off%20244%20in%20an%20industrial%20part%20of%20town),%20it%20is%20not%20a%20fine%20dining%20mecca,%20but%20it%20is%20worth%20the%20trip.%20We%20have%20been%20there%20on%20numerous%20occasions%20to%20celebrate%20family%20birthdays,%20a%20friend%E2%80%99s%20graduations,%20and%20just%20for%20a%20quiet%20dinner.%20We%20haven%E2%80%99t%20ever%20been%20disappointed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20The%20Hubs%E2%80%99%20birthday,%20I%20put%20together%20a%20little%20gift%20of%20date%20ideas.%20It%20seems%20that%20we%20become%20comatose%20sometimes%20when%20we%20want%20to%20go%20out%20but%20we%20can%E2%80%99t%20think%20of%20a%20place%20to%20go.%20I%20stuffed%20a%20glass%20jar%20full%20of%20ideas%20written%20on%20colorful%20popsicle%20sticks.%20Last%20Saturday%20morning,%20he%20pulled%20a%20blue%20one%20(blue%20stands%20for%20%E2%80%9Cgood%20eats%E2%80%9D)%20and%20low-and-behold%20but%20Go%20West%20%20was%20written%20on%20it.%20That%20would%20be%20our%20dining%20destination%20for%20a%20Saturday%20night%20date!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20seemed%20like%20there%20were%20a%20lot%20of%20locals%20%20and%20regulars%20enjoying%20the%20food%20on%20our%20visit.%20There%20were%20a%20number%20of%20large%20groups%20but%20it%20was%20not%20loud%20at%20all.%20We%20had%20already%20had%20some%20apps%20at%20another%20establishment,%20so%20we%20went%20straight%20to%20ordering%20our%20salads%20and%20entrees.%20I%20had%20the%20GW%20Brand%20Salad%20(greens%20with%20candied%20pecans,%20bleu%20cheese,%20apple,%20and%20balsamic%20dressing)%20and%20The%20Hubs%20went%20with%20the%20GW%20Caesar%20(a%20twist%20on%20the%20traditional%20Caesar%20with%20LOTS%20of%20spice,%20black%20bean%20and%20corn%20relish,%20and%20a%20Parmesan%20crisp).%20It%20had%20a%20bite!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20came%20the%20beef.%20The%20Hubs%20ordered%20a%20center-cut%20ribeye%20(14%20oz.)%20that%20came%20with%20a%20Chimichurri%20sauce%20and%20a%20chile%20relleno%20on%20the%20side.%20He%20is%20a%20chile%20relleno%20connoisseur%20and%20he%20deemed%20this%20one%20OK.%20The%20steak%20was%20super%20tender%20and%20delicious.%20I%20ordered%20the%20Mr.%20Young%E2%80%99s%20101%20Ranch%20Hand.%20This%20was%20a%20super%20thick%20petite%20fillet,%20bacon%20wrapped,%20served%20with%20garlic%20mashed%20potatoes%20and%20some%20interesting%20Brussels%20sprouts.%20I%20love%20Brussels%20sprouts%20but%20I%20love%20them%20just%20slightly%20saut%C3%A9ed%20or%20roasted.%20These%20were%20braised%20in%20tomatoes%20and%20peppers%20and%20reminded%20me%20so%20much%20of%20my%20grandmother%E2%80%99s%20Swiss%20steak.%20My%20steak%20was%20super%20tender%20too.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20steak%20was%20topped%20with%20a%20chili-butter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20serve%20two%20types%20of%20bread/muffins%20with%20your%20meal%20at%20Go%20West%20%E2%80%94a%20spicy%20cornbread%20and%20a%20more%20subdued%20star-shaped%20muffin.%20I%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20tell%20which%20one%20I%20liked%20best.%20For%20dessert,%20we%20split%20a%20chocolate%20pecan%20pie.%20The%20only%20hitch%20we%20had%20with%20service%20was%20that%20the%20server%20brought%20us%20the%20check%20before%20our%20dessert%20and%20then%20seemed%20anxious%20for%20us%20to%20pay%20before%20the%20dessert%20came.%20Maybe%20she%20wanted%20out%20of%20there%20early%20or%20maybe%20we%20looked%20like%20Tab%20Walker!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20pie%20was%20good%20but%20I%20think%20it%20was%20just%20a%20plain%20pecan%20pie%20with%20chocolate%20chips%20thrown%20on%20top%20after%20baking%20(which%20is%20a%20pretty%20good%20idea).%20It%20would%20have%20been%20much%20better%20warmed%20up%20a%20bit.%20(Other%20dessert%20offerings%20were%20interesting%E2%80%94jalapeno%20cheesecake%20and%20cookie%20dough%20tamales.%20The%20latter%20is%20only%20made%20on%20special%20occasions%20and%20we%20have%20had%20them%20on%20a%20past%20trip%E2%80%94they%20are%20good.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20a%20sampling%20of%20their%20seasonal%20menu.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGo%20West%20also%20has%20a%20comfy%20bar%20area%20and%20live%20music%20on%20Fridays.%20(Now%20that%20basketball%20season%20is%20over%20with,%20maybe%20we%20can%20check%20that%20out.)%20One%20of%20the%20owners,%20in%20his%20cowboy%20regalia,%20roams%20the%20dining%20room%20to%20ma
