Crisp Sugar Drop Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Arm & Hammer or possibly Cow brand soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp. white (distilled) vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar

Directions

  1. Sift flour with baking soda and salt.
  2. Combine egg with vinegar, lemon rind and vanilla.
  3. Cream butter and shortening till smooth and fluffy.
  4. Add in sugar gradually, creaming well.
  5. Add in dry ingredients and egg mix alternately, a little at a time, blending well after each addition.
  6. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet and flatten with floured tines of fork. Sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Bake at 400 degrees F. (warm oven) 10 to 12 min.
