%20here%20are%20some%20(mostly)%20edible%20things%20that%20are%20comforting.%20%20Speaking%20of%20which%E2%80%A6is%20it%20%E2%80%9Cbad%E2%80%9D%20to%20turn%20to%20food%20for%20comfort?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Improvisational%20Fried%20Rice%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhy%20it%E2%80%99s%20comforting?%20Tastes%20like%20home!%20You%20can%E2%80%99t%20have%20real%20Chinese%20fried%20rice%20without%20a%20few%20things%20though%E2%80%A6%20they%20include%20eggs,%20peas,%20and%20white%20rice!%20These%20were%20our%20additional%20add-ins%20to%20spice%20things%20up%20a%20little:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EImitation%20Crab%20Meat%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScallions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMaple-glazed%20ham%20chunks%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESesame%20oil%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDark%20soy%20sauce%20(Did%20you%20know%20that%20%E2%80%9Clight%20soy%20sauce%E2%80%9D%20is%20more%20concentrated%20and%20actually%20MORE%20salty%20than%20dark%20soy%20sauce?%20%20)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENick%20makes%20a%20mean%20fried%20rice,%20but%20not%20with%20brown%20rice,%20that%E2%80%99s%20for%20sure.%20With%20white%20rice,%20you%E2%80%99re%20able%20to%20achieve%20a%20rice%20%E2%80%9Ccracker%E2%80%9D%20like%20texture%20when%20the%20rice%20granules%20char%20slightly%20on%20the%20heated%20wok.%20If%20you%20order%20this%20at%20a%20restaurant,%20your%20chef%20will%20most%20likely%20use%20leftover%20rice%20from%20the%20night%20before%20because%20it%E2%80%99ll%20hold%20up%20better%20to%20the%20stir-fry%20process%20and%20not%20get%20soggy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Elegant%20Ramekins%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHELP!%20I%20have%20an%20obsession%20with%20cute%20and%20pretty%20bowls/ramekins!%20I%20bought%20a%20set%20of%203%20at%20Marshall%E2%80%99s%20for%20$3.99.%20Good%20deal%20huh?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlmond%20Apple%20Pie%20Spiced%20Steel%20Cut%20Oats%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUse%20this%20as%20a%20base%20and%20top%20it%20with%20lots%20of%20yummy%20things!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESimply%20throw%20everything%20into%20a%20slow%20cooker,%20stirring%20occasionally%20until%20oats%20are%20thickened%20and%20have%20absorbed%20most/all%20of%20the%20liquid.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*MySpiceSage%20sells%20seasonings%20and%20spices%20in%20BULK!%20The%20price%20will%20often%20come%20out%20cheaper%20than%20if%20you%20bought%20it%20from%20your%20local%20grocery%20store.%20They%20also%20have%20an%20insane%20collection%20of%20spices!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Cereal%20+%20Banana%20+%20Peanut%20Butter%20Dribbles%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKid%20food%20for%20grown-ups!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMulti-Grain%20puffins%20are%20my%20newest%20cereal%20find.%20Too%20bad%20TJ%E2%80%99s%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20have%20it.%20I%20had%20to%20pick%20it%20up%20from%20(the%20always%20over-priced)%20Whole%20Foods.%20Yummiest%20served%20with%20super%20ripe%20bananas%20and%20some%20Krema%20peanut%20butter.%20(Does%20the%20bowl%20look%20familiar?)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETastiness:%208.5/10.%20They%20are%20in%20between%20the%20size%20of%20a%20regular%20puffin%20and%20the%20peanut%20butter%20puffin,%20so%20it%E2%80%99s%20pretty%20much%20a%20smaller%20PB%20puffin%20without%20the%20PB%20flavor.%20Get%20this%20cereal%20and%20drizzle%20it%20with%20REAL%20peanut%20butter%20%E2%80%93%20it%E2%80%99ll%20knock%20your%20socks%20off.%20%20%20The%20multi-grain%20puffins%20are%20excellent%20at%20soaking%20in%20a%20little%20bit%20of%20its%20surrounding%20milk,%20yet%20still%20retains%20is%20crunchy%20flaky%20texture.%20Delicious!!%20Beware%20of%20addiction.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20My%20$10%20Gingerbread%20House!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20be%20fair,%20Nick%20bought%20the%20kit%20for%20us%20when%20I%20got%20sick%20over%20the%20weekend%20for%20our%20entertainment.%20We%20spent%203%20hours%20assembling%20the%20house%20and%20decorating%20it.%20I%20will%20never%20underestimate%20cake%20decorators%20and%20their%20frosting%20abilities!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*warning*%20Store%20bought%20ginger%20bread%20kit%20houses%20are%20NOT%20meant%20to%20be%20eaten.%20Blechh%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20it%E2%80%99s%20just%20going%20to%20sit%20on%20the%20counter%20until%20creepy%20crawlies%20start%20move%20in.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHmmm%20I%20wonder%20where%20the%20gingerbread%20boy%E2%80%99s%20foot%20went?%20Nom%20nom%E2%80%A6He%20looks%20like%20a%20ghost%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20he?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20Spicy%20Noodles%20(spoken%20like%20a%20true%20Asian%20yes?)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThough%20I%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20consider%20instant%20noodles%20a%20%E2%80%9Chealth%20food%E2%80%9D%20per%20se,%20the%20Annie%20Chun%20instant%20noodles%20have%20no%20chemicals%20and%20no%20MSG%20at%20all.%20After%20a%20tough%20day%20at%20work,%20it%E2%80%99s%20nice%20to%20have%20a%20piping%20hot%20bowl%20of%20fresh%20chewy%20noodles%20to%20eat%20for%20dinner.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20product:%20Gochujang%20is%20a%20popular%20Korean%20red%20chili%20paste%20that%20is%20the%20main%20component%20of%20the%20sauce.%20Annie%20Chun%E2%80%99s%20combined%20fresh-cooked%20(Chinese)%20hokkien%20noodles%20with%20the%20sweet%20and%20spicy%20Gochujang%20to%20create%20a%20bowl%20of%20broth-less%20%E2%80%9Ctossed%E2%80%9D%20noodles%20ready%20to%20be%20consumed%20in%20literally%202%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETastiness:%208/10.%20The%20sauce%20itself%20is%20a%20wonderful%20well-balanced%20blend%20of%20sweet,%20savory,%20and%20a%20tad%20of%20spiciness%20thanks%20to%20the%20gochujang.%20You%20smell%20the%20aromatic%20sesame%20oil%20from%20the%20moment%20you%20open%20the%20package%20and%20just%20makes%20the%20sauce%20sing.%20The%20noodles%20themselves%20are%20incredibly%20chewy%20and%20fresh-tasting,%20but%20like%20all%20instant%20noodles,%20the%20vegetable%20toppings%20are%20pretty%20much%20tiny%20and%20non-existent.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENOTE!%20The%20bowl%20packs%20an%20astounding%20amount%20of%20sodium%20(1660mg%20per%20bowl)%20and%20contains%201%20major%20food%20group:%20carbs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServed%20with%20Chinese%20braised%20eggs%20and%20%20furikake%20*drool*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20Recommendation:%20Split%20the%20noodles%20into%202%20servings%20and%20top%20each%20with%20a%20hefty%20plate%20of%20veggies%20and%20protein%20to%20round%20out%20the%20meal.%20Flavor-wise,%20this%20is%20excellent,%20but%20nutritionally,%20it%E2%80%99s%20not%20exactly%20awesome.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6.%20Getting%20inspired%20by%20food%20blogs!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20suppose%20it%E2%80%99s%20not%20a%20coincidence%20that%20pretty%20much%20everything%20is%20in%20the%20form%20of%20carbs%20huh?%20What%20Comforts%20You??%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
