Caramel Apple Biscuits Alice Spickard

Ingredients

  • 2 c. Red Band Self-Rising Flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1 lrg golden brown delicious apple peeled and grated Caramel Sauce recipe follows or possibly use prepared caramel sauce

Directions

  1. Mix flour, sugar and nutmeg. Cut butter and shortening into flour mix. Stir in grated apple. Add in buttermilk and stir. Knead on a floured board 5 - 10 times. Pat out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a 2-inch circle biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 min or possibly till golden brown. Remove to rack and drizzle caramel sauce over hot biscuits.
  2. Makes 12-14 biscuits.
  3. Caramel Sauce:Bring c. light brown sugar, 2 Tbsp. butter, and 2 Tbsp. whipping cream to a boil, over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, cold to room temperature.
