Red Velvet Cake without the “Red”
I filled the center with strawberry preserves and topped the cake with powdered sugar.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 ½ cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 ½ tsps baking powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
  • (or stir 1 tablespoon vinegar into sweet milk and let stand 10 minutes)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
