Vertical Garden: An Easy Solution
If you’ve visited our house lately, you may have noticed that it’s been been rather barren outside. Remember all the foliage in the front? Gone. I have a serious disdain for the Bird-of-Paradise and banana plants we inherited all around the property (no offense to those of you who have a liking for the leathery evergreens, but they’re like the clingy ex-boyfriend of the plant world to me), so Nate hired some guys to come yank it all out. ,%20so%20Nate%20hired%20some%20guys%20to%20come%20yank%20it%20all%20out.%20BOOM.%20Blank%20slate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20wanted%20something%20decorative%20there%20while%20I%20contemplate%20a%20long-term%20solution,%20so%20I%20turned%20to%20vertical%20gardening.%20Container%20gardens%20are%20perfect%20for%20those%20of%20us%20who%20frequently%20change%20our%20minds,%20and%20vertical%20gardens%20help%20me%20maintain%20a%20clear%20ground%20to%20keep%20the%20animals%20from%20pummeling%20it%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20to%20Vertical%20Garden%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20vertical%20garden%20structure%20we%20got%20from%20Pennington%20is%20sold%20at%20Home%20Depot.%20It%E2%80%99s%20actually%20meant%20to%20be%20hung%20up%20on%20a%20railing,%20but%20I%20decided%20to%20wait%20to%20attach%20it%20to%20the%20wall%20after%20we%20paint%20the%20house%20exterior%E2%80%A6soonish.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20vertical%20garden%20system%20%20consists%20of%20two%20weather-coated%20vertical%20rails%20(available%20in%20two,%20four%20or%20six%20foot%20lengths)%20and%20Eastern%20Red%20Cedar%20planks%20going%20across%20the%20middle%20(customizable%20in%20eighteen,%20twenty-four%20or%20thirty%20inch%20lengths).%20This%20whole%20system%20altogether%20can%20hold%20300%20pounds!%20It%20is%20seriously%20sturdy.%20I%20was%20a%20little%20stumped%20at%20first%20when%20it%20came%20time%20to%20attach%20the%20horizontal%20rails%20to%20the%20vertical%20outside%20railings,%20but%20it%20turned%20out%20I%20just%20had%20to%20unscrew%20the%20brackets%20from%20the%20planks%20and%20turn%20them%20around,%20inserting%20the%20brackets%20into%20the%20side%20railing%20before%20slipping%20the%20planks%20in%20and%20screwing%20it%20all%20back%20together.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20a%20decorative%20scroll,%20some%20fun%20planters%20and%20a%20couple%20tool%20hooks%20and%20you%E2%80%99re%20good%20to%20go!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20kept%20one%20of%20the%20previous%20owner%E2%80%99s%20beloved%20succulents%20(I%E2%80%99m%20sentimental%20like%20that,%20guys)%20and%20left%20a%20cedar%20box%20in%20the%20middle%20open%20to%20hold%20whatever%20fresh%20produce%20I%20happen%20to%20pick%20around%20the%20property.%20This%20way%20the%20display%20will%20always%20be%20changing,%20and%20I%E2%80%99ll%20have%20a%20convenient%20snack%20right%20outside%20my%20window!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20little%20blackberry%20bramble%20was%20neglected%20all%20summer,%20but%20I%20stuck%20it%20in%20a%20small%20pot%20to%20see%20if%20some%20seasonal%20rain%20can%20nurture%20it%20back%20to%20life.%20These%20things%20are%20astoundingly%20resilient,%20and%20I%E2%80%99ve%20seen%20quite%20a%20few%20revive%20themselves%20when%20I%20was%20positive%20they%20were%20goners.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20biggest%20bucket%20is%20reserved%20for%20my%20gardening%20supplies%20and%20s%E2%80%99more%20sticks,%20of%20course.%20The%20fire%20pit%20is%20right%20across%20from%20this%20vertical%20garden,%20so%20it%20makes%20a%20handy%20place%20to%20stash%20poker%20sticks%20and%20other%20small%20essentials.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20the%20look%20of%20all%20my%20tools%20hanging%20there.%20The%20boots,%20obviously,%20won%E2%80%99t%20be%20a%20permanent%20fixture.%20They%E2%80%99d%20get%20chewed%20up%20by%20our%20spazzy%20dogs%20in%20no%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20occurred%20to%20me%20after%20setup%20that%20this%20would%20look%20quite%20gorgeous%20hung%20on%20an%20inside%20wall.%20I%20feel%20a%20guest%20room%20addition%20coming%20on!%20I%20can%20just%20picture%20it%20now,%20filled%20with%20bonsai%20and%20jade.%20Where%20would%20YOU%20put%20a%20vertical%20garden?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPennington%20Vertical%20Gardens%20partnered%20with%20bloggers%20such%20as%20me%20to%20help%20educate%20us%20all%20about%20their%20Pennington%20Vertical%20Gardening%20System%20products.%20As%20part%20of%20this%20program,%20I%20received%20compensation.%20They%20did%20not%20tell%20me%20what%20to%20purchase%20or%20what%20to%20say%20about%20the%20use%20of%20the%20products.%20Pennington%20Vertical%20Gardens%20believes%20that%20consumers%20and%20bloggers%20are%20free%20to%20form%20their%20own%20opinions%20and%20share%20them%20in%20their%20own%20words.%20Pennington%20Vertical%20Garden%E2%80%99s%20policies%20align%20with%20WOMMA%20Ethics%20Code,%20FTC%20guidelines%20and%20social%20media%20engagement%20recommendations.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
