Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp chopped garlic
  • 1 Tbsp. rice wine
  • 1/2 c. vegetable oil
  • 3/4 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp finely-minced green onion
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp finely-minced fresh Cilantro
  • 8 ounce large sea scallops
  • 1/4 c. hoisin sauce

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except the cilantro, scallops and hoisin sauce in a blender. Blend till smooth. Add in cilantro and scallops, and stir till scallops are coated in marinade. Cover and chill for 1 day.
  2. To grill scallops, season them with salt, grill on one side, turn them over, and brush one side of the scallops with hoisin sauce. Continue cooking the scallops till medium-rare and serve.
  3. This recipe yields 3 appetizer servings.
  4. Comments: The combination of a ginger infused marinade and a final brushing of hoisin sauce adds several layers of flavor to scallops without over-powering them.
