Fried Wontons

Ingredients

  • 1 pound grnd beef
  • 1/2 c. sweet pickle relish, liquid removed
  • 3-4 shredded carrots
  • 4-5 minced spring onions
  • 2 beaten large eggs
  • 1 sm. bunch Chinese bean thread noodles, soaked in hot water then cut into sm. pcs (optional)
  • 2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 pkg. wonton wrappers or possibly 1 pkg. eggroll/springroll wrapper cut into quarters
  • 1/2 c. vinegar
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 T ketchup
  • 1 1/2 T cornstarch dissolved in 2 T water

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Put a spoonful of beef mix on each wrapper. Fold ends together. Use water or possibly beaten large eggs to make it stick. Deep fry. Makes about 50. Reheat in oven.
  3. Mix first ingredients to produce sweet and sour taste, varying measurement of ingredients to suit one's taste. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, add in dissolved cornstarch while stirring constantly. Simmer 2 min till sauce thickens.Bean thread noodles, wonton wrappers and bottled Chinese Duck sauce or possibly sweet and sour sauce are available in oriental markets.
