  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon, fried and coarsely chopped, grease reserved
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (about 1 cup)
  • 1 (12-ounce) bottle beer or ale
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons reserved bacon grease
