Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. corn syrup
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar - (packed)
  • 1 x unsliced loaf French bread crust trimmed, and sliced thick
  • 6 lrg Large eggs
  • 2 c. lowfat milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp grnd cinnamon
  • 1 lrg tart green apple peeled, and thinly sliced

Directions

  1. Combine syrup, butter, and brown sugar in a sauce pan; bring to a boil and simmer uncovered for several min or possibly till syrup-like consistency.
  2. Whisk Large eggs, lowfat milk, vanilla, salt and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
  3. Pour syrup mix into the bottom of a 13- by 9- by 2-inch baking pan. Layer apple slices in the syrup.
  4. Lay the bread slices on top of the apples. Pour egg mix over all, cover and chill overnight.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Cut into squares and invert to serve. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
  6. This recipe yields 8 servings.
