Excessive posts of the same recipe

Just a couple of thoughts as I go through dozens and dozens of e-mails, the majority from CES.
Over the past several years I have received e-mails as “so and so added a recipe” but what was posted was a copy of an ad for a store or a comparison between the ads from two stores. I don’t shop at these stores, or in some cases even have them in my area. I have received e-mails that rather than a recipe, contain a comment on what the poster was going to cook but decided to go out to dinner instead that night. These are not recipes! At best, they belong under “so and so has some news”.

CES has a nice feature…..Groups. This allows a member to receive recipes based on a specific subject or cuisine. The reality is when a member of a lot of groups posts a recipe they post it to ALL of the groups they belong to. This means a member of several groups may receive multiple copies of the same recipe. This is OK as long as the recipe has some relevance to the group’s topic. Unfortunately what ends up happening is a recipe for, oh I don’t know, say vegan tofu strudel, ends up posted on a group for spicy foods, French cooking, Italian cooking, BBQ, tailgating, chicken, or a dozen others.
The result of receiving all of these e-mails is that I end up deleting the entire bunch without reading any of them. I suggest CES allow for selective group posting and/or issue courtesy guidelines on posting recipes and where to post different types of information the member wants to share.

This is not meant to offend anyone, just one of my pet peeves.

Topic kind should be set
Topic subject cannot be empty
Topic message cannot be empty

Re: Excessive posts of the same recipe

This is great feedback Travis. We'll have to think about the best way to deal with it. One way to deal with it personally is to edit your email settings so that Group recipe posts come in your weekly digest as opposed to daily. That doesn't solve the core issue of people posting to the wrong groups, but at least it avoids you getting bombarded with updates. You can change your email settings here: http://cookeatshare.com/my/preference
