  • 6 Italian sausages – (preferably 3 sweet and 3 hot) chopped
  • 1 – 28 oz. can baked beans (seasoned with bacon and brown sugar)
  • 1 – 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 Jalapeño – chopped with seeds
  • 4 cloves garlic – chopped
  • 1 healthy handful of Italian parsley
  • 1 sweet onion – chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper – chopped
  • ½ cup stout beer
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Olive oil for drizzling

Directions

  1. Cook sausages and chop.
  2. In a large frying pan heat a drizzle of olive oil and add the Jalapeño, garlic, onion and bell pepper. Sauté until the onion is clear. Add the sausages and toss. Add the parsley, tomatoes, baked beans and toss. Simmer for a minute and add the beer and the honey.
  3. Simmer on low for 1 hour or longer, the longer the better.
  4. Serve this dish as is or over rice.

    This recipe had potential to be great.. upon squeezing the honey to add to this dish the top flew off and a big glob fell into pan. I tried to scoop excess but it melted quicker than I can scoop away...LOL (note to self don't measure ingredients over cooking pot) Needless to say this came out a tad too sweet BUT still edible. in fact I would probably omit the honey all together for our tastes. I also did add a can of kidney beans witch made it super hardy.
    I've cooked/tasted this recipe!
