Ingredients

  • 1 med. sized cabbage
  • 3 pound grnd chuck
  • 1 lg. bottle Heinz ketchup
  • 2 c. cooked rice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Core cabbage and steam till leaves are pliable and are easily separated. Set aside and cold. Cook and cold rice. Mix meat with rice; season with salt and pepper. Fill cabbage leaves with meat mix; roll and tuck in corners.
  2. Mix a little ketchup with sufficient water to cover the bottom of a roasting pan. Layer piggies in roasting pan; adding ketchup to each layer. Add in a little water to top layer; cover and bake in 250 degree oven for 2 1/2-3 hrs.
  3. Lower heat to 200 degrees; remove lid. Bake 45 min. Piggies should be well done with very little juice in pan. Remove to serving platter; sprinkle with grated cheese. Serve with fresh Italian bread.
  4. NOTE: A meal which can be made in advance.
