The Kohler Food and Wine Experience is set in the beautiful town of Kohler, Wisconsin and features incredible chefs, such as Jacques Pépin and Cat Cora.
There are times when a food and wine experience turns into so much more than food and wine – the whole is greater than sum of the parts, I guess you’d say. That was what happened when I attended the Kohler Food and Wine Experience in Kohler, Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago.

%20descended%20upon%20the%20town%20and%20checked%20into%20the%20American%20Club%20Resort,%20which%20was%20just%20named%20the%20Top%20Resort%20in%20the%20Midwest%20by%20Conde%20Nast%E2%80%99s%20reader%E2%80%99s%20choice%20awards.%20Sommer%20attended%20the%20Food%20and%20Wine%20Experience%20last%20year%20and%20brought%20us%20all%20together%20to%20be%20a%20part%20of%20the%202013%20experience.%20Thank%20you,%20Sommer!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20had%20the%20opportunity%20to%20tour%20the%20impressive%20Kohler%20Design%20Center.%20The%20center%20is%20set%20up%20to%20display%20some%20of%20Kohler%E2%80%99s%20amazing%20products,%20as%20well%20as%20to%20feature%20the%20history%20of%20the%20company%20and%20the%20Kohler%20family.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20American%20Club%20Resort%20and%20the%20town%20of%20Kohler%20are%20home%20to%20a%20number%20of%20fine%20dining%20and%20casual%20restaurants.%20I%20ate%20one%20of%20the%20best%20meals%20of%20my%20life,%20served%20by%20Chef%20Matthew%20Bauer,%20at%20The%20Immigrant%20Restaurant.%20Crab%20cakes%20with%20a%20soft%20boiled%20egg%20and%20lobster%20Hollandaise%20or%20roasted%20pork%20tenderloin%20with%20a%20smoked%20tomato%20demi-glace%20do%20not%20disappoint!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20must-stop%20location%20in%20the%20Kohler%20village%20is%20the%20Craverie%20Chocolatier%20Cafe,%20featuring%20the%20beautiful%20chocolates%20of%20pastry%20chef%20Annette%20Righi.%20We%20sampled%20everything%20from%20the%20chocolate%20terrapins%20(think%20chocolate%20turtles%20made%20with%20innovative%20ingredients%20and%20very%20high-quality%20chocolate)%20to%20the%20layered%20chocolate%20cake.%20We%E2%80%99re%20food%20bloggers%E2%80%A6we%E2%80%99ll%20call%20it%20market%20research.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYes,%20we%20were%20there%20to%20eat%20and%20drink,%20but%20we%20were%20also%20there%20to%20learn.%20And%20learn%20we%20did,%20from%20some%20of%20the%20best.%20When%20you%20are%20learning%20from%20the%20likes%20of%20renowned%20French%20chef,%20TV%20personality%20and%20author,%20Jacques%20P%C3%A9pin%20and%20his%20daughter,%20Claudine%20P%C3%A9pin,%20you%20know%20you%20have%20not%20stumbled%20into%20a%20run-of-the-mill%20cooking%20demonstration.%20The%20two%20of%20them%20are%20just%20as%20entertaining%20on%20stage%20and%20in%20person%20as%20they%20are%20on%20TV.%20Chef%20P%C3%A9pin%20brought%20out%20his%20French%20charm%20and%20laid%20a%20quick%20kiss%20on%20my%20cheek%20when%20we%20ran%20into%20him%20at%20one%20of%20the%20evening%20events.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKohler%20is%20also%20home%20to%20Whistling%20Straits%20golf%20course,%20home%20of%20the%202004%20and%202010%20PGA%20Championships.%20The%20golf%20course%20is%20set%20along%20the%20shores%20of%20Lake%20Michigan%20and%20features%20rolling%20hills,%20picture%20perfect%20greens%20and%20a%20herd%20of%20Aberdeen%20sheep,%20brought%20from%20Scotland.%20Amanda%20was%20finally%20rewarded%20for%20her%20diligence%20with%20the%20sheep%20(%E2%80%9CCome%20here,%20Lambchop.%E2%80%9D)%20when%20one%20of%20them%20wandered%20over%20to%20eat%20grass%20out%20of%20her%20hand.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20the%20many%20highlights%20of%20the%20trip%20was%20having%20the%20opportunity%20to%20sit%20down%20and%20chat%20with%20Chef%20Cat%20Cora,%20cookbook%20author%20and%20Food%20Network%20chef%20(the%20only%20female%20donning%20the%20white%20coat%20as%20an%20Iron%20Chef).%20She%20is%20dedicated%20to%20educating%20others%20on%20the%20benefits%20of%20healthy%20eating.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20asked%20what%20she%20sees%20as%20the%20next%20food%20trend,%20Chef%20Cora%20predicted%20that%20%E2%80%9Chealthy%20gourmet%E2%80%9D%20will%20increase%20in%20popularity%20as%20%E2%80%9CVegetables%20move%20(sic)%20to%20the%20middle%20of%20the%20plate%E2%80%9D%20and%20portions%20become%20smaller.%20When%20packing%20her%20four%20kids%E2%80%99%20lunch%20boxes,%20she%20turns%20to%20healthy%20offerings%20such%20as%20panini%20and%20hummus.%20Chef%20Cora%20grew%20up%20in%20a%20Greek%20family%20in%20Mississippi%20and%20says,%20%E2%80%9CIf%20you%E2%80%99ve%20never%20tried%20a%20biscuit%20topped%20with%20hummus%20and%20feta,%20you%E2%80%99re%20missing%20out.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20end,%20I%20wanted%20to%20share%20a%20story%20that%20speaks%20to%20the%20amazing%20service%20provided%20at%20the%20American%20Club%20Resort%20and%20the%20type%20of%20people%20that%20we%20met%20again%20and%20again%20in%20Kohler,%20Wisconsin:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEach%20morning,%20I%20ordered%20a%20simple%20breakfast%20of%20granola%20and%20fresh%20fruit%20from%20room%20service%20and%20each%20morning,%20the%20same%20staff%20member,%20a%20lovely%20lady%20with%20a%20sunny%20disposition,%20Rita,%20brought%20my%20order%20to%20my%20room.%20On%20the%20last%20morning,%20Rita%20brought%20my%20breakfast%20on%20a%20cart%20(she%20had%20used%20a%20tray%20the%20previous%20morning)%20and%20said,%20%E2%80%9CI%20have%20a%20cart%20for%20you%20this%20morning.%E2%80%9D%20I%20could%20have%20sworn%20she%20said%20she%20had%20a%20card%20for%20me.%20We%20joked%20about%20that%20for%20a%20moment%2
