Do you know what we call «sweets of the spoon» in greek? They are sweets made with fresh fruits, boiled in a syrup till the syrup is thick and they are then kept and used all year round.

The original method of serving is to put a small spoon full of the sweet in a small plate and serve it accompanied with cold water.

Also it can be added to yoghurt or even to an icecream.

Starting my preparations for the forthcoming winter, I made a sweet using grapes.

Directions

  1. 1. We wash and separate the grapes.
  2. 2. In a heavy pan we put the water, sugar and vanilla
  3. 3. We put the pan on the heat
  4. 4. When the syrup starts boiling, we add the grapes and we shake the pan smoothly from time to time.
  5. 5. We boil for 10 minutes and we remove immediately the pan from the heat.
  6. 6. We cover the pan with a towel.
  7. 7. Next day we re-start boiling till the syrup becomes thick
  8. 8. Before removing the pan from the heat we add the lemon zest in order for the sugar not to be crystallised.
  9. 9. When the sweet is cool, we put in sterilised vases and keep it in a dry dark place.
