These are the kind of beans served at barbecues or while camping yet, happy baked in the oven, then served with Sunday dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp. Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 Medium Onion, Diced
- 4 Whole Garlic Cloves, Minced
- 1/4 Lb. Andouille Sausage, Cubed
- 1/2 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
- 3/4 Cup Ketchup
- 1 Tsp. Dry Mustard
- 2 Tbsp. Dijon Mustard
- 1 Tbsp. Chili Powder
- 1 Tsp. Ground Cumin
- 1/2 Cup Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey - Honey
- 14 Oz. Can Red Beans, Drained & Rinsed
- 14 Oz. Can Pinto Beans, Drained & Rinsed
- 14 Oz. Can Black Beans, Drained & Rinsed
- 14 Oz. Can Cannellini Beans (White Kidney), Drained & Rinsed
Directions
Grill Version:
1.
Prepare enough coals for a medium-hot fire and arrange them on one side of the grill or set a gas grill to medium-high.
2.
Place a large (9 Inch) cast iron, on the grill over the coals. Add the olive oil and onion; cook stirring often until the onion softens, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook 1 minutes.
3.
Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
4.
Move the skillet to the side of the grill opposite the coals or decrease gas grill to medium-low. Cover the skillet and grill, cook for 20 minutes.
5.
Remove from heat and serve.
Oven Version:
1.
Preheat oven to 350° F; spray a 2-Quart casserole dish with non-stick spray.
2.
Place beans, onions and sausage in casserole.
3.
In a medium bowl add garlic, brown sugar, ketchup, mustards, chili powder, cumin and Jack Daniels; stir well to combine.
4.
Pour whiskey mixture over beans; stir gently to combine.
5.
Cover and bake in 350°F oven for 45 minutes, stirring half way through.
Cooks Tips:
1.
If desired, Southern Comfort and Korbel Brandy can be substituted for Whiskey.
2.
Feel free to add some bell pepper, celery or hot peppers.
