%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20know%20we%20went%20to%20see%20the%20film%20when%20it%20came%20out,%20but%20I%20truly%20didn%E2%80%99t%20remember%20any%20of%20the%20cinematic%20details,%20let%20alone%20food%20references,%20so%20I%20was%20thrilled%20to%20see%20Evelyne%20hosting%20this%20film%20for%20January%E2%80%99s%20Food%20%E2%80%98n%20Flix.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20surprised%20by%20the%20food%20inspiration%20I%20found%20in%20the%20film%20including%20Mother%20Jones%E2%80%99%20infamous%20turkey%20curry%20and%20baby%20gherkins%20speared%20with%20toothpicks.%20%20But%20the%20real%20stand%20out%20has%20to%20be%20Bridget%E2%80%99s%20birthday%20dinner%20of%20blue%20leek%20soup,%20omelettes,%20caperberry%20gravy%20and%20orange%20pudding%20(or%20parfaits%E2%80%94it%20was%20never%20really%20clear%20to%20me).%20%20%20And%20that%20blue%20soup,%20looking%20like%20some%20sort%20of%20Willy%20Wonkaesque%20creation,%20stuck%20with%20me.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20wanted%20to%20do%20some%20sort%20of%20a%20riff%20on%20this%20blue%20theme,%20but%20what%20to%20do%E2%80%94what%20to%20do%E2%80%A6.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVodka%20also%20made%20many%20appearances%20in%20the%20film.%20%20%20Hmmmm.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20thought%20a%20blue%20martini%20would%20fit%20the%20bill%20nicely.%20%20%20But,%20when%20I%20was%20buying%20supplies%20at%20the%20local%20liquor%20store%20(including%20some%20Hpnotiq%20liqueur%20just%20in%20case%20all%20things%20went%20awry),%20the%20kindly%20clerk%20asked%20why%20all%20the%20blue%20stuff.%20%20%20As%20I%20described%20this%20super%20creative%20Food%20%E2%80%98n%20Flix%20club%20to%20him,%20that%20we%20had%20just%20all%20watched%20Bridget%20Jones%E2%80%99%20Diary,%20and%20that%20I%20wanted%20to%20make%20a%20blue%20cocktail%20instead%20of%20blue%20soup,%20he%20offered%20the%20following%20suggestion:%20%20%E2%80%9CWhy%20don%E2%80%99t%20you%20make%20a%20blue%20Cosmo%20with%20white%20cranberry%20juice%20and%20swap%20out%20the%20Countreau%20for%20blue%20curacao?%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%9CYou%20are%20a%20genius,%E2%80%9D%20I%20responded.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20rest%20is%20history.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBridget%20Jones%E2%80%99%20Singleton%20Cosmo%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFill%20a%20cocktail%20shaker%20with%20ice.%20Pour%20in%20vodka,%20curacao,%20white%20cranberry%20juice,%20and%20lemon%20juice.%20Shake%20then%20strain%20into%20a%20martini%20glass.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESip%20slowly%20while%20listening%20to%20some%20funk%E2%80%94as%20Bridget%20says,%20%E2%80%9CI%20choose%20Vodka.%20And%20Chaka%20Khan.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETotal%20irrelevant%20aside%20and%20please%20don%E2%80%99t%20think%20I%E2%80%99m%20a%20braggart:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%201997,%20I%20appeared%20on%20two%20episodes%20of%20Jeopardy!%20%20I%20won%20one%20game%20(enough%20$%20just%20to%20pay%20for%20the%20trip%20to%20California)%20and%20barely%20scored%20the%20next%20round.%20%20%20I%20was%20forced%20to%20focus%20on%20my%20buzzer%20quickness%20and%20was%20intent%20on%20just%20beating%20the%20other%20two%20opponents.%20%20I%20was%20not%20so%20focused%20on%20being%20confident%20about%20my%20answering%20ability.%20%20%20I%20will%20always%20remember%20one%20particular%20misstep.%20%20%20%20All%20I%20heard%20Alex%20say%20was%20something%20about%20%E2%80%9Ca%20British%20author%E2%80%9D%20and%20%E2%80%9Ca%20diary.%E2%80%9D%20%20%20I%20immediately%20rang%20in%20and%20answered%20%E2%80%9CPepys%E2%80%9D%20because%20is%20there%20any%20more%20famous%20British%20diarist?%20(Remember,%20I%E2%80%99m%20an%20old%20English%20teacher.)%20%20As%20soon%20as%20I%20said,%20%E2%80%9CWho%20is%20Pepys?%E2%80%9D%20I%20swear%20that%20Alex%20looked%20at%20me%20with%20a%20mixture%20of%20scorn%20and%20pity.%20%20%20The%20correct%20response%20was%20%E2%80%9CWho%20is%20Helen%20Fielding?%E2%80%9D%20%20%20I%20was%20appalled%20and%20embarrassed,%20especially%20since%20I%20had%20only%20recently%20read%20the%20novel%20and%20it%20was%20a%20favorite.%20Thus%20began%20my%20demise%E2%80%A6that%20and%20the%20Final%20Jeopardy%20question%20that%20involved%20Yuban%20Coffee,%20a%20brand%20I%20had%20never%20heard%20of.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20with%20some%20speared%20baby%20gherkins.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETotally%20irrelevant%20rhetorical%20question:%20%20How%20many%20times%20was%20the%20%E2%80%9Cf%E2%80%9D%20word%20used%20in%20this%20film?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20has%20to%20be%20a%20record%20for%20a%20chick%20flix.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThanks%20again,%20Evelyne,%20for%20hosting.%20%20Enjoy%20the%20cocktail%20and%20please%20join%20Food%20%E2%80%98n%20Flix%20in%20February%20as%20the%20featured%20film%20is%20the%20classic%20Lady%20and%20the%20Tramp%20(hosted%20by%20The%20Lawyer%E2%80%99s%20Cookbook).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
