Sauteed Or Grilled Ham Steak With Apples Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ham steak - (1" thick)
  • 2 Tbsp. Butter
  • 1 x Granny smith apple peeled, cored,
  •     finely diced
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 c. Hard or possibly apple cider
  • 1/4 c. Heavy cream (optional)
  •     Salt to taste
  •     Freshly-grnd black pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Remove rind and trim off all but 1/4-inch of outer fat. Cut ham into two serving pcs. Score the fat edge at 1-inch intervals so the steak does not curl during cooking. Lightly saute/fry, ham on both sides in butter for 3 to 4 min a side. Remove ham steak to a plate.
  2. Add in apple and saute/fry till somewhat soft. Stir in mustard and cider and reduce till the cider has almost entirely evaporated. Add in the heavy cream and reduce till slightly thickened. Season to taste with salt and pepper and spoon sauce over steak.
  3. This recipe yields 2 servings.
