Directions

  1. Cut the onions in half lengthwise through the root, and then cut each half into thirds, like lemon wedges. Separate the outer layers from one another, setting the smaller leaves at the centre aside.
  2. Put the oil in a pan and add in the onion leaves. Cook gently over a low heat till they are soft, about 30 min. Make sure to keep separating the leaves so which they do no stick together. Add in the honey and cook gently for about 10 min. Add in the butter and continue to caramelize the onion leaves till they are almost dry.
  3. Remove the individual leaves from the pan and air-dry them on a cookie tray. Use immediately or possibly store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 weeks.
  4. Preparation is medium
  5. Yield: approximately 40 leaves
