Ingredients

  • 1 c. catsup
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar - (packed)
  • 1/3 c. granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. veg. oil
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. honey
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 lb lean grnd pork
  • 1 tsp sausage seasoning
  • 8 slc Texas toast
  •     (or possibly 4 hamburger buns or possibly kaiser rolls, split)
  •     Leaf lettuce
  •     Onion slices

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine catsup, brown sugar, granulated sugar, veg. oil, vinegar, honey, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir over medium heat till the sugars dissolve and sauce is warm. Cover and chill up to 1 week.
  2. Combine grnd pork and sausage seasoning in a large mixing bowl. Form mix into four 3/4-inch-thick patties.
  3. For a charcoal grill, place patties on the grill rack directly over medium coals. Grill, uncovered, for 14 to 18 min or possibly till an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of a patty registers 160 degrees. Turn patties halfway through cooking time and brush with sauce.
  4. For a gas grill, preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Place patties on the grill rack; cover and grill as directed above.
  5. Serve patties on Texas toast or possibly buns topped with lettuce and onion slices. Pass additional sauce.
  6. This recipe yields 4 servings.
  7. Comments: Sausage seasoning is a ready-mixed blend of salt, sage, and other herbs. Look for it with the other seasoning mixes in your supermarket.
