Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. Hot water
  • 1 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Flour
  • 3 pkt Dry yeast
  • 1 c. Lowfat milk
  • 1/2 lb Butter
  • 6 x Large eggs, well beaten
  • 1 c. Sugar
  • 1 c. Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Orange flavoring
  • 6 x -(up to)
  • 7 c. Flour
  • 1 c. Flour
  • 1 c. Sugar
  • 1 x Egg yolk
  • 1/4 lb Butter
  • 1 tsp Grated orange rind
  • 1/2 c. Bread crumbs

Directions

  1. Hi. This sounds like it might be what you're thinking of, but we always called it Placek.
  2. Combine water, sugar, 1 Tbs flour and yeast and leave to rise. Hot butter and lowfat milk in small pot. Beat Large eggs, 1 c. sugar, 1 c. flour, salt and orange flavoring. Add in the lowfat milk mix and the yeast mix from above.
  3. Add in 2 more c. of flour; beat well. Add in another 4-5 c. of flour, a c. of raisins, and beat it some more Turn into a large bowl and cover and let rise for about an hour. Knead and cut into 4 parts: put each into a loaf pan. Let rise one more hour (at halfway, brush with slightly beaten egg white, and sprinkle with crumb mix (below)). Bake at 350 F for 35 min.
  4. Crumb mix: Mix all ingredients.
  5. This came from my Great-Grandma and has been enjoyed for several years in our Polish family.
