  1. Figs were introduced to North America by Spanish Franciscan missionaries.
  2. 1. Place whole figs in a single layer in large saucepan. In a medium bowl, whisk together zest, juice, and honey. Pour over figs, cover pan, and gently simmer till figs are softened, about 15 min- With a slotted spoon, remove figs and place in a medium bowl.
  3. 2. In a small bowl or possibly c., dissolve cornstarch in water, whisk into simmering fruit syrup, and cook till syrup thickens, about 2 min. Stir in cloves, cinnamon, and Grand Mariner, if you like. Pour over figs and set aside to cold.
  4. Serve at room temperature, garnished with pecans, if you like.
  5. Makes 4 servings. Vegan
