.%20%20The%20ingredient%20list%20for%20the%20most%20popular%20brand%20of%20refrigerated%20pie%20crust%20lists%20a%20dozen%20ingredients.%20%20That%20alone%20kind%20of%20puts%20me%20off.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20I%20also%20checked%20out%20%E2%80%9Creal%E2%80%9D%20Danish%20Kringle%20recipes.%20%20It%E2%80%99s%20a%20multi-step%20process%20that%20can%20take%20up%20to%203%20days%20of%20rolling%20and%20folding%20dough%20to%20build%20up%20layers%20of%20buttery%20pastry%20which%20sounds%20incredible%20but%20which%20is%20way%20beyond%20Cheap%20Bastid%E2%80%99s%20skill%20and%20patience%20level.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut,%20I%E2%80%99m%20always%20interested%20in%20creating%20new%20dishes,%20especially%20desserts%20that%20are%20homemade%20and%20fill%20the%20category%20of%20%E2%80%9Cspecial%E2%80%9D.%20%20And%20this%20fits%20both%20of%20those.%20%20Plus,%20it%E2%80%99s%20not%20going%20to%20hurt%20my%20feelings%20at%20all%20if%20you%E2%80%99d%20rather%20use%20refrigerated/store-bought%20pie%20crust%20to%20make%20this.%20%20It%E2%80%99s%20going%20to%20add%20to%20the%20price,%20of%20course,%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20going%20to%20reduce%20time%20and%20a%20bit%20of%20aggravation.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20other%20thing,%20is%20that%20I%20had%20a%20pound%20of%20fresh%20pecans%20in%20the%20freezer%20courtesy%20of%20my%20Mom%20who%20for%20the%20last%2035%20years%20or%20so%20has%20been%20the%20matriarch%20of%20her%20church%E2%80%99s%20annual%20pecan%20sale%20to%20raise%20money%20to%20help%20out%20needy%20families.%20%20Mom%20sent%20me%20a%20couple%20of%20bags%20last%20December%20and%20this%20was%20a%20good%20use%20of%20some%20of%20it.%20%20And%20there%20should%20still%20be%20enough%20for%20my%20homemade%20Cheap%20Bastid%20pecan%20pie%20that%20I%E2%80%99ll%20make%20for%20my%20birthday%20later%20this%20month.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOh,%20and%20last%20but%20not%20least,%20I%20went%20just%20a%20little%20bit%20more%20decadent%20with%20this.%20%20It%E2%80%99s%20Chocolate-Pecan%20Pie%20Crust%20Kringle.%20%20And%20it%E2%80%99s%20goooooood!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESummary:%20Here%E2%80%99s%20an%20inexpensive%20and%20quicker%20way%20to%20treat%20your%20family%20with%20a%20version%20of%20Danish%20Kringle.%20This%20chocolate%20pecan%20confection%20is%20really%20tasty!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20375%20&%20get%20out%20a%20cookie%20sheet%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERoll%20pie%20crust%20into%20a%20rectangle%20about%2016%E2%80%9D%20x%2012%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20bowl%20mix%20pecans,%20chocolate%20chips,%20brown%20sugar%20and%20butter/margarine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpoon%20the%20mix%20down%20the%20middle%20of%20the%20crust%20taking%20up%20about%201/3%20of%20the%20width.%20Leave%20about%201%20%C2%BD%20inch%20at%20each%20end.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGently%20fold%20the%20sides%20up%20to%20the%20middle%20of%20the%20topping%20and%20fold%20the%20ends%20onto%20the%20top%20of%20the%20crust.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUse%20the%20tines%20of%20a%20fork%20to%20%E2%80%9Ccrimp%E2%80%9D%20the%20edges.%20Then%20prick%20the%20top%20of%20the%20crust%20to%20vent.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20for%20about%2018-20%20minutes%20or%20until%20golden%20brown.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20icing,%20mix%20together%20the%20powdered%20sugar,%20vanilla%20and%20enough%20milk%20to%20make%20a%20smooth%20icing%20which%20drizzle%20slowly%20but%20easily%20(careful,%20I%20always%20use%20too%20much%20liquid%20and%20it%20comes%20out%20runny).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20powdered%20sugar,%20make%20some%20by%20using%201/3%20cup%20sugar%20and%20a%20tbsp%20of%20corn%20starch.%20Put%20it%20in%20a%20coffee%20grinder%20and%20pulse%20it%20for%20about%2010%20seconds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20kringle%20comes%20out%20of%20the%20oven,%20let%20it%20cool%20for%20a%20couple%20of%20minutes%20then%20drizzle%20the%20icing%20on%20it.%20Sprinkle%20some%20finely%20chopped%20pecans%20over%20the%20icing%20if%20you%20have%20some%20left.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECut%20into%20about%202%E2%80%9D%20wide%20slices%20and%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreparation%20time:%2030%20minute(s)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECooking%20time:%2020%20minute(s)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENumber%20of%20servings%20(yield):%206%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20was%20a%20bit%20of%20work%20because%20it%20was%20the%20first%20time%20I%20made%20it.%20%20But%20it%20was%20really,%20really%20tasty.%20%20A%20little%20like%20a%20chocolate-pecan%20pie.%20%20And%20you%20can%20make%20any%20filling%20you%20want%20for%20it%E2%80%94fruit,%20cream%20cheese,%20etc.%20%20This%20can%20be%20a%20dessert%20or%20it%20could%20be%20a%20weekend%20breakfast%20pastry.%20%20With%20all%20due%20respect%20to%20the%20Danish%20bakers%20out%20there,%20it%E2%80%99s%20easier%20and%20faster%20than%20traditional%20Danish%20pastry%E2%80%94although%20not%20as%20flaky%20and%20delicate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGive%20it%20a%20try.%20%20You%E2%80%99ll%20enjoy%20it%20and%20so%20will%20your%20family.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Cheap%20Bastid%20Test:%20%20Let%E2%80%99s%20see,%20the%20pecans%20were%20free%20but%20they%E2%80%99re%20about%20$8/lb%20at%20the%20grocery%20store%20and%20I%20use
