  • 6 Tbsp. butter divided
  • 3 med Bartlett pears peeled, sliced
  • 1/4 c. dry cherries soaked in warm water
  •     to plump, then liquid removed
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon divided
  • 2 Tbsp. coarsely-minced walnuts
  • 1/4 c. bread crumbs
  • 4 sht phyllo dough thawed
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar

Directions

  1. In a large saute/fry pan heat 2 Tbsp. of the butter. Add in pears and saute/fry for 3 min. Add in plumped cherries, brown sugar, 1/2 tsp. of the cinnamon, and the walnuts. Continue cooking for an additional 3 to 5 min or possibly till pears are soft. Remove from pan and refrigeratecompletely.
  2. In the same pan the pears were sauteed in, heat 2 more Tbsp. of the butter. Add in the bread crumbs and saute/fry till golden. Add in the toasted bread crumbs to the chilled pear mix. Mix well.
  3. Heat the remaining 2 Tbsp. of butter. Place a sheet of phyllo dough on a clean work surface. Lightly brush with melted butter. Place second sheet of phyllo on top of first and brush with melted butter. Repeat with the remaining phyllo sheets.
  4. Spread the chilled pears along the long edge of the phyllo. Carefully roll into a strudel by folding short ends over filling and rolling dough up along long end. Brush with butter. Sprinkle with sugar and the remaining 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon.
  5. Place seam-side down on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Place pan into another identical sheet pan (doubling the sheet pans keeps the phyllo from burning).
  6. Grill for 20 to 30 min or possibly till golden. Allow to cold slightly before cutting and serving.
  7. This recipe yields 8 servings.
  8. Comments: This delicious and buttery dessert is good anytime.
