.%20Instead,%20they%E2%80%99re%20running%20in%20to%20grab%20up%20their%20crochet%20hooks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20how%20this%20happened,%20since%20I%E2%80%99m%20hardly%20an%20expert%20crocheter,%20but%20I%20started%20leading%20a%20tiny%20crochet%20class%20during%20a%20time%20our%20school%20calls%20Marketplace.%20Our%20students%20run%20businesses%20to%20earn%20money,%20and%20we%E2%80%99re%20currently%20crocheting%20some%20crafts%20we%E2%80%99re%20selling%20for%20Poem%20in%20Your%20Pocket%20Day.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20%E2%80%9Ccrochet%20class%E2%80%9D%20consists%20of%20just%20these%20two%20students:%20S.L.%20and%20M.S.%20The%20former,%20S.L.,%20is%20a%20crocheting%20superhero.%20She%E2%80%99s%20already%20taught%20me%20a%20thing%20or%20two%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20know%20before.%20M.S.%20is%20my%20novice%20crocheter,%20but%20she%E2%80%99s%20a%20superhero%20in%20her%20own%20right.%20She%20cracks%20me%20up%20because%20she%E2%80%99s%20so%20hard%20on%20herself,%20but%20the%20reality%20of%20the%20situation%20is%20that%20she%20learned%20to%20crochet%20in%20about%205%20minutes%20flat%20and%20is%20doing%20a%20fantastic%20job.%20She%E2%80%99ll%20plow%20through%203%20chains%20in%20a%20class%20period%20and%20still%20feel%20like%20she%E2%80%99s%20going%20slowly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20didn%E2%80%99t%20realize%20how%20fun%20our%20time%20together%20would%20be!%20Our%20tradition%20is%20to%20open%20up%20some%20soothing%20music%20on%20calm.com%20and%20chat%20while%20we%20crochet%20away%20the%20hour.%20I%E2%80%99m%20always%20amazed%20at%20how%20fast%20it%20goes.%20The%20girls%20are%20hilarious%20together,%20so%20I%20started%20a%20crochet%20quote%20book%20to%20capture%20their%20best%20material.%20So%20far%20my%20favorite%20is%20when%20we%20were%20singing%20%E2%80%9CSeasons%20of%20Love%E2%80%9D%20(the%20chorus%20meets%20in%20the%20next%20room%20and%20sometimes%20we%20can%E2%80%99t%20help%20but%20sing%20along)%20and%20M.S.%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20join%20in.%20The%20following%20conversation%20ensued:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EM.S.:%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20sing%20because%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20the%20song.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMe:%20That%E2%80%99s%20okay!%20Just%20hum%20along!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EM.S.:%20*exaggerated%20humming*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ES.L.:%20That%20was%20definitely%20Mozart%20material.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EM.S.:%20I%20was%20thinking%20more%20Beethoven,%20but%20okay.%20Strauss?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ES.L.:%20Bach.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EM.S.:%20Tchaikovskyq.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMe:%20I%20would%20put%20this%20in%20the%20quote%20book,%20but%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20want%20to%20look%20up%20how%20to%20spell%20%E2%80%9CTchaikovskyq.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ES.L.:%20If%20you%E2%80%99re%20ever%20in%20doubt,%20just%20add%20a%20silent%20%E2%80%98q.%E2%80%99%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E.%20.%20.%20And%20that,%20my%20friends,%20it%20how%20I%20learned%20how%20to%20spell%20Tchaikovskyq.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20my%20time%20with%20those%20sweet%20girls%20%E2%80%94%20and%20with%20all%20my%20students.%20I%20can%20think%20of%20so%20many%20of%20these%20little%20islands%20in%20my%20every%20day%20interactions%20with%20them.%20Telling%20you%20about%20just%20one%20of%20them%20has%20made%20me%20feel%20so%20much%20better.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%E2%80%99s%20an%20island%20of%20joy%20for%20you:%20another%20easy%20pastry%20braid!%20I%20love%20these%20braids%20because%20they%E2%80%99re%20so%20unfailingly%20simple%20to%20make,%20always%20turn%20out%20beautiful,%20and%20always%20taste%20amazing.%20This%20one%20in%20particular%20is%20just%20so%20darn%20delicious%20that%20you%20have%20to%20try%20it!%20Plump%20peaches%20rest%20on%20pillowy%20vanilla%20cheesecake%20creating%20a%20peaches%20and%20cream%20masterpiece.%20Enjoy%20%E2%80%94%20maybe%20while%20listening%20to%20some%20Tchaikovskyq?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20cups%20all-purpose%20flour%202%20tablespoons%20powdered%20sugar%201%20teaspoon%20baking%20powder%20%C2%BD%20teaspoon%20salt%20%C2%BD%20cup%20unsalted%20butter%203%20ounces%20cream%20cheese%20%C2%BD%20cup%20milk%20%C2%BD%20teaspoon%20almond%20extract%201%20egg%20whisked%20with%201%20teaspoon%20water%20for%20egg%20wash%201%20(8-ounce)%20package%20cream%20cheese,%20softened%20%C2%BC%20cup%20sugar%20%C2%BD%20teaspoon%20vanilla%20extract%201%20egg,%20room%20temperature%201%C2%BD%20(15-ounce)%20cans%20sliced%20peaches%20in%20light%20syrup,%20drained%20%C2%BD%20cup%20powdered%20sugar%201%20tablespoon%20milk%20%E2%85%9B%20teaspoon%20vanilla%20extract%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%20the%20filling:%20Cream%20the%20softened%20cream%20cheese%20in%20a%20medium%20bowl%20until%20fluffy%20before%20adding%20sugar,%20vanilla%20extract,%20and%20the%20egg.%20Mix%20together%20until%20well%20combined.%20Set%20aside%20on%20the%20counter%20while%20you%20prepare%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20braid.%20Make%20the%20pastry%20braid:%20Preheat%20the%20oven%20to%20425%20degrees%20F.%20In%20the%20bowl%20of%20a%20food%20processor,%20mix%20the%20flour,%20powdered%20sugar,%20baking%20powder,%20and%20salt.%20Add%20the%20cream%20cheese%20and%20butter%20into%20the%20flour%20mixture%20and%20pulse%20to%20cut%20the%20fat%20into%20the%20flour%20(about%206%20pulses).%20Add%20the%20milk%20and%20almond%20extract%20and%20blend%20until%20it%E2%80%99s%20just%20starting%20to%20come%20together%20into%20a%20loose%20dough.%20Turn%20the%20dough%20out%20onto%20a%20big%20sheet%20of%20lightly-floured%20parchment%20paper%20and%20knead%20each%20very%20lightly%20for%20just%20a%20few%20strokes%20(be%20careful%20not%20to%20overwork%20the%20dough%20or%20it%E2%80%99ll%20be%20tough!%20Don%E2%80%99t%20worry%20about%20getting%20it%20smooth%20%E2%80%94%20just%20knead%20for%20these%20few%20strokes%20and%20let%20it%20stay%20a%20little%20rough.)%20Very%20lightly%20flour%20the%20top%20of%20the%20dough%20and%20roll%20it%20out%20to%20a%2010-%20by%2012-inch%20rectangle.%20Measure%20and%20mark%20the%20dough%20lengthwise%20into%20thirds.%20Spread%20the%20cream%20cheese%20mixture%20over%20the%20middle%20third%20of%20the%20dough.%20Arrange%20peach%20slices%20on%20top.%20Continue%20assembling%20the%20braid:%20(Remember,%20there%20are%20photos%20below%20to%20help%20visualize%20this%20step!)%20Make%20diagonal%20cuts%20at%201-inch%20intervals%20on%20each%20the%20long%20sides.%20Do%20not%20cut%20into%20the%20center%20filling%20area.%20Fold%20strips,%20first%20one%20from%20one%20side%20and%20then%20one%20from%20the%20other%20side%20in%20an%20alternating%20fashion,%20over%20the%20filling,%20dusting%20off%20any%20excess%20flour%20as%20you%20go.%20It%20will%20now%20resemble%20a%20braid.%20Use%20the%20sheet%20of%20parchment%20to%20carefully%20transfer%20your%20braid%20to%20a%20baking%20sheet.%20At%20this%20point%20you%20can%20cover%20and%20refrigerate%20the%20braid%20overnight,%20or%20you%20can%20continue%20to%20the%20next%20step.%20Bake%20and%20glaze%20the%20braid:%20Brush%20the%20pastry%20braid%20with%20the%20egg%20wash%20mixture.%20Bake%20in%20the%20425%20degree%20oven%20for%2020-22%20minutes,%20until%20the%20dough%20is%20really%20golden%20on%20top.%20After%20allowing%20the%20braid%20to%20cool%20for%20around%2030%20minutes,%20whisk%20together%20the%20powdered%20sugar,%20vanilla%20extract,%20and%20milk%20in%20a%20small%20measuring%20cup%20with%20a%20pour%20spout.%20Drizzle%20over%20the%20top%20of%20the%20braid%20and%20serve!%20%203.2.2925%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EExample%20of%20how%20to%20cut%20and%20assemble%20braid.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
