Korean Barbecue Bowl at Pacific Catch in Mountain View.
San Francisco-based Pacific Catch opened its sixth location at the end of March in Mountain View — and its largest restaurant to date.
Partners Aaron Noveshen and Keith Cox opened the first Pacific Catch on Chestnut Street in San Francisco in 2003. This spring, they also brought on board David Gingrass as executive chef. Gingrass, who cooked with Wolfgang Puck and once had the lauded Hawthorne Lane restaurant in San Francisco, has streamlined and upgraded operations, according to the general manager. Still to come, Gingrass will be putting his stamp on the menu with some new dishes.

,%20which%20I%20tried%20at%20the%20manager%E2%80%99s%20suggestion.%20It%E2%80%99s%20a%20golden%20blend%20of%20Svedka%20vodka,%20passion%20fruit%20and%20Serrano%20chilies.%20It%20starts%20out%20fruity%20and%20refreshing,%20then%20the%20kick%20of%20heat%20kicks%20in%20at%20the%20end,%20warming%20the%20throat%20all%20the%20way%20down.%20It%20should%20come%20with%20a%20warning,%20as%20you%20can%E2%80%99t%20help%20but%20take%20one%20sip%20then%20reach%20for%20another%20and%20another.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20you%20peruse%20the%20menu,%20a%20little%20dish%20of%20edamame%20%E2%80%94%20conveniently%20already%20removed%20from%20their%20pods%20%E2%80%94%20arrives%20with%20goldfish%20pretzels.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPassion%20fruit,%20vodka%20and%20chilies%20make%20for%20a%20cocktail%20with%20sweet%20heat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20lieu%20of%20the%20usual%20bread%20basket.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHaving%20just%20returned%20from%20a%20trip%20to%20Hawaii,%20I%20was%20still%20jonesing%20for%20poke,%20which%20is%20not%20easy%20to%20find%20on%20the%20mainland.%20At%20Pacific%20Catch,%20it%E2%80%99s%20one%20of%20their%20specialties.%20Seven%20types%20are%20offered%20at%20$12%20each.%20Or%20you%20can%20pick%20three%20in%20a%20sampler%20trio%20for%20$19.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20went%20with%20the%20trio:%20White%20tuna%20with%20slivers%20of%20raw%20tuna%20tossed%20with%20yuzu,%20Fresno%20chilies,%20white%20soy%20sauce%20and%20red%20onions,%20probably%20the%20mildest%20tasting%20of%20the%20bunch.%20The%20lomi%20lomi%20of%20salmon,%20tomatoes,%20sweet%20onion,%20cilantro%20and%20red%20chilies,%20which%20had%20a%20real%20lushness.%20And%20my%20favorite%20of%20the%20three,%20the%20Original%20Poke,%20nicely%20firm%20cubes%20of%20sushi-grade%20ahi%20dressed%20with%20assertive%20sesame%20oil%20and%20soy%20sauce%20with%20a%20hint%20of%20spice.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20trio%20of%20pokes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Ecstasy%20roll.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPacific%20Fresh%20serves%20sushi,%20but%20only%20in%20over-sized%20rolls,%20most%20of%20which%20either%20feature%20a%20tempura%20item%20inside%20or%20the%20entire%20roll%20being%20fried.%20If%20you%E2%80%99re%20wanting%20traditional%20sushi%20where%20the%20fish%20is%20the%20star,%20this%20is%20not%20the%20place.%20If%20you%E2%80%99re%20after%20more%20California-style%20rolls%20with%20a%20lot%20going%20on,%20this%20is%20the%20place%20for%20you.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20tried%20the%20Ecstasy%20roll%20($12.50),%20filled%20with%20albacore,%20ahi,%20tobiko,%20avocado%20and%20green%20onion,%20all%20rolled%20in%20nori,%20then%20lightly%20tempura-fried.%20There%E2%80%99s%20no%20rice%20in%20this%20roll.%20But%20it%20does%20come%20doused%20with%20an%20abundance%20of%20citrus%20chili%20glaze%20that%20rather%20overtakes%20the%20fish.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFish%20&%20Chips%20and%20more.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20husband%20decided%20on%20the%20Mixed%20Catch%20Basket%20of%20Fish%20&%20Chips%20($14.50).%20Two%20pieces%20of%20white%20fish,%20three%20coconut-battered%20shrimp%20and%20three%20fried%20oysters%20come%20with%20sesame%20slaw,%20Thai%20chili%20sauce,%20jalapeno%20tartar%20sauce,%20and%20your%20choice%20of%20fries%20(my%20husband%20chose%20a%20mix%20of%20regular%20and%20sweet%20potato).%20It%20all%20arrives%20whimsically%20on%20a%20plate%20lined%20with%20the%20front%20page%20from%20the%20%E2%80%9CHonolulu%20Tribune.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnfortunately,%20all%20of%20it%20was%20pretty%20limp,%20too%20%E2%80%94%20the%20worst%20case%20scenario%20for%20any%20fish%20&%20chips%20plate.%20Not%20even%20the%20fries%20were%20all%20that%20crisp.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20fared%20far%20better%20with%20my%20Korean%20Barbecue%20Rice%20Bowl%20($15.50).%20You%20can%20choose%20white%20or%20brown%20rice.%20And%20since%20each%20bowl%20comes%20with%20an%20abundant%202%20cups%20of%20rice,%20you%20are%20even%20allowed%20to%20swap%20out%20half%20of%20the%20rice%20for%20crisp%20salad%20greens%20if%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20want%20a%20carb%20overload.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%E2%80%99s%20what%20I%20did,%20getting%20a%20bed%20of%20half%20brown%20rice%20and%20half%20romaine%20leaves%20with%20my%20choice%20of%20skewered%20shrimp%20(a%20generous%2012%20shrimp%20in%20total)%20glazed%20with%20a%20sweet%20Korean%20sauce.%20It%E2%80%99s%20all%20topped%20with%20a%20small%20mound%20of%20slightly%20spicy%20green%20onion%20panchan,%20julienned%20cucumbers,%20daikon%20sprouts,%20shredded%20nori,%20and%20a%20flurry%20of%20fluffy%20shreds%20of%20egg%20omelet.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20wedge%20of%20mango%20cake%20with%20an%20outsized%20scoop%20of%20coconut%20ice%20cream.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20dessert,%20we%20shared%20a%20special%20of%20mango%20upside%20down%20cake%20($7)%20with%20swirls%20of%20caramel%20sauce%20and%20a%20huge%20ball%20of%20coconut%20ice%20cream%20that%20looked%20like%20a%20boulder%20sitting%20precariously%20on%20top.%20The%20cake%20was%20tender%20and%20moist,%20and%20the%20snowball%20of%20ice%20cream%20perhaps%20not%20so%20outsized%20after%20all,%20since%20we%20managed%20to%20finish%20most%20of%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMore%20Mo
