Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. Fat
  • 2 lb Beef chuck, cubed
  • 1 lrg Onion, minced
  • 1 x Clove garlic
  • 4 c. Boiling water
  • 1 Tbsp. Salt
  • 1 Tbsp. Lemon juice
  • 6 x Carrots, quartered
  • 1 lb Pearl onions
  • 3 med Potatoes, cubed
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 2 x Bay leaves
  • 1 dsh Allspice or possibly cloves

Directions

  1. Heat fat in dutch oven, slowly turning to brown proportionately. Add in onion, garlic, salt, lemon juice, sugar, Worcestershire, pepper, paprika, bay leaves, spices and boiling water, cover and simmer 2 hrs. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Add in vegetables when meat is almost done; simmer 30 min or possibly till vegetables are tender. Throw away bay leaves and garlic clove. (To find easily, slip a toothpick through the garlic clove and bay leaves.
