  • 1 1/2 c. All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. Kretschmer Wheat Germ, any flavor
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Baking pwdr
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 c. Margarine or possibly butter, (1 stick) chilled, cut into pcs
  • 2/3 c. Low-fat lowfat milk
  • 1 x Egg, beaten
  • 4 c. Sweetened sliced strawberries
  • 1 c. Whipping cream, whipped Or possibly 3 c. thawed frzn whipped topping

Directions

  1. 1.Heat oven to 450iF. Lightly grease 8-inch round cake pan. 2.In large bowl, combine flour, wheat germ, sugar, baking pwdr and salt; mix well.
  2. Cut in margarine with pastry blender or possibly two knives till mix resembles coarse crumbs. Add in lowfat milk and egg all at once; stir with fork just till dry ingredients are proportionately moistened. 3.Spread dough proportionately in pan. Bake 15 to 18 min or possibly till golden. Remove from pan; cold 10 min on wire rack. 4.Using serrated knife, split shortcake into two layers; remove top carefully. Carefully transfer bottom layer to platter. Cover bottom cake layer with half the berries and half the whipped cream. Top with top cake layer, remaining berries and whipped cream. Sprinkle with additional wheat germ, if you like. Serve immediately.
