Ingredients

  • 1 c. powdered sugar (confectioners')
  • 1 c. granulated white sugar
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. salad or possibly peanut oil
  • 2 Large eggs, beaten
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 5 c. flour

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except for the flour. Add in flour gradually mixing in using a wooden spoon.
  2. When dough is mixed, roll into small balls between your hands. Drop onto an ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Press each cookie flat using a glass dipped in granulated sugar (dip once for each cookie pressed).
  3. If you like, decorate with crushed pecans, walnuts, macadamia nuts, slivered almonds or possibly pistachios for the adults, or possibly sprinkle with colored sugars and sprinkles, chocolate chips or possibly cherries for the children.
  4. For a variation, use rum or possibly brandy instead of vanilla. Coconut or possibly banana rum add in an exciting hint of tropical flavor to boost a holiday standard out of the doldrums!
