Nancy Reagan's Monkey Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 pkt dry yeast
  • 1 c. lowfat milk - (to 1 1/4)
  • 3 x Large eggs
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 6 ounce butter room temperature
  • 1/2 lb melted butter
  • 1 x ring mold - (9" dia)

Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix yeast with small amount of lowfat milk till dissolved. Add in 2 Large eggs and beat. Fold in dry ingredients. Add in remaining lowfat milk a little at a time, mixing thoroughly. Cut in butter till blended. Knead dough, let rise 1 to 1 1/2 hrs till doubled in size.
  2. Roll dough onto floured board, shape into a log. Cut log into 24 pcs of equal size. Shape each piece of dough into a ball, roll in melted butter.
  3. Place 12 balls in the bottom of the buttered and floured mold, leaving space between. Place remaining balls on top, spacing proportionately. Let dough rise in mold for 30 min.
  4. Brush top with remaining egg. Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees till golden, approximately 25 to 30 min.
  5. This recipe yields 1 loaf.
  6. Yield: 1 loaf
