Ingredients

Cost per recipe $1.69 view details
  • 1 head of cabbage, thinly sliced and sliced in-half
  • 1/2 lb Bacon, cut into 1/4-inch strips
  • 2 slc A large onion, finely diced
  •     Vinegar
  •     Sugar

Directions

  1. (I have no idea how to spell this, it"s not in my Bohemian Cookbook!)
  2. Brown sliced bacon and diced onion, don't burn (If the cabbage is a very large head, you may need more bacon.) Don't drain. Thinly slice cabbage.
  3. You don't want real long slices, so cut them in half. Add in cabbage gradually to bacon and onion. Stirring after each addition till the cabbage is coated with bacon grease. Add in salt, pepper, vinegar and sugar to taste. Add in these ingredients gradually. You can also add in more, but you can"t add in less. (My mother would mix the vinegar and sugar in a bowl or possibly glass jar, and then add in it to the cabbage. This is a sweet and sour cabbage dish, that is not made with red cabbage. Simmer till cabbage is very limp. Serve warm.
  4. This is my family"s favorite!
