Mexican Chili (North Dakota Style)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tbsp. chili pwdr
  • 1/4 teaspoon grnd cumin
  • 1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes
  • 1 med. onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (8 ounce.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (1 lb.) can pintos (with juice)

Directions

  1. Heat oil in large skillet. Brown onion then add in garlic at the last minute. Brown meat, breaking up into small pcs. Add in chili pwdr, salt and cumin. Stir. Add in sauce and tomatoes with juice, mashing up tomatoes with back of spoon. Bring to a boil then simmer for 30 min, covered, stirring occasionally. Add in beans with juice. Simmer, covered, for 15 to 20 more min, stirring occasionally. Serves 4 to 6. (Freezes well.)
