Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 c. white sugar
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 T vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 c. warm water
  • 1 teaspoon soda

Directions

  1. Heat chocolate in double boiler first. Cream butter and sugar; add in large eggs. Sift flour and add in alternately with buttermilk. Then add in 1/2 cup hot water to melted chocolate. Put other 1/2 cup hot water in a pan and bring to a boil. (This is most important!) To this add in soda and immediately add in this to chocolate mix.Pour chocolate mix into the batter, add in vanilla. Bake in greased tube (angel food cake pan) at 325 degrees. Cake will pull away from sides of pan when done. Don't ice the cake. Wrap it in aluminum foil and keep in refrigerator. It will be it's best by the 3rd day, growing more moist with age.
