Lamb In A Bread Basket Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Frzn bread dough, thawed
  • 1 Tbsp. Fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp Caraway seeds Sesame Seed sauce, (recipe follows)
  • 2 Tbsp. Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 med Onion, chopped
  • 2 x Garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 1/2 lb Grnd lean lamb or possibly beef
  • 2 x Tomatoes, minced Salt and freshly grnd pepper to taste
  • 1/4 c. Minced chives or possibly green onions
  • 1 c. Sesame-seed paste, (tahini paste)
  • 4 x Cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 x Lemons, (6 Tbsp.) , Juice of Salt to taste About 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. Minced fresh parsley
  • 1 Tbsp. Extra virgin olive oil, if you like

Directions

  2. Bread becomes an edible container for grnd meat laced with tahini sauce.
  3. Prepare dough to the point of rolling out. Knead slightly then knead in fennel and caraway seeds. Preheat oven to 350F (175C). Grease a 10-inch pie plate. On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 12 inch circle. Fit dough into prepared pie plate, making a raised edge as you would for a pie. Bake 30 to 35 min or possibly till golden. Or possibly,
  4. to prevent dough from puffing during baking, fill with dry beans and bake 35 to 40 min; remove beans before adding meat filling. Heat extra virgin olive oil in a large saucepan. Add in onion and garlic. Saute/fry' till onion is tender, about 5 min. Add in meat, tomatoes, salt and pepper. Cook till meat is browned and crumbly. Drain off fat, if necessary. Add in chives or possibly green onions and cook 1 minute. Remove from heat. Cover and let stand 10 min.
  5. Remove baked bread from pie plate. Place on a platter. Spoon meat mix proportionately into bread shell. Pour half the sesame-seed sauce over meat mix.
  6. To serve, cut into wedges and top with remaining sauce.
  7. Makes 6 servings.
  8. Sesame-Seed Sauce: Combine sesame-seed paste, garlic, lemon juice and salt in blender. Process till smooth. Gradually blend in water for desired consistency. Mix should be thick for using as a dip and thin to use as a topping. Turn into a small bowl. Stir in parsley. (For dips, press your finger in center of dip, making an indentation and fill indentation with extra virgin olive oil. If sauce is to be used as a topping, leave plain.)
