.%20The%20LT%20stands%20for%20Laurent%20Tourondel,%20the%20French-born%20chef%20who%20took%20Manhattan%20by%20storm%20from%20the%20opening%20of%20his%20first%20BLT%20restaurant.%20(BLT%20is%20short%20for%20Bistro%20Laurent%20Tourondel.)%20There%20are%20now%2015%20BLT%E2%80%99s%20from%20New%20York%20to%20Hong%20Kong.%20%20But%20my%20heart%20belongs%20to%20LT%20Burger.%20Oddly,%20my%20favorite%20%E2%80%98sandwich%E2%80%99%20at%20LT%20Burger%20isn%E2%80%99t%20a%20burger%20at%20all.%20It%E2%80%99s%20called%20%E2%80%9CDirty%20Chicken%E2%80%9D%20which%20consists%20of%20fried%20chicken,%20smoked%20gouda,%20slaw,%20frizzled%20fried%20onions%20and%20barbecue%20Mayo.%20That%20was%20before%20my%20foodiest%20friends%20started%20chatting%20up%20LT%E2%80%99s%20newest%20%E2%80%9CBeyond%20Burger%E2%80%9D.%20%20And%20it%20has%20not%20one%20ounce%20of%20meat%20in%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20exactly%20is%20a%20Beyond%20Burger%20?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%202009,%20a%20man%20named%20Ethan%20Brown%20opened%20a%20company%20called%20Beyond%20Meat%20to%20make%20nothing%20but%20plant-based%20meat%20substitutes.%20Beyond%20Meat%20started%20out%20with%20faux%20chicken,%20which%20sold%20briskly%20at%20Whole%20Foods.%20%20They%20didn%E2%80%99t%20get%20to%20beef%20until%202016%20when%20Beyond%20Burger%20hit%20store%20shelves.%20%20And%20what%20exactly%20is%20in%20a%20Beyond%20Burger?%20%20It%E2%80%99s%20a%20vegan%20meat%20substitute%20that%E2%80%99s%20made%20from%20a%20mixture%20of%20pea,%20rice%20and%20mung%20bean%20proteins,%20canola%20and%20coconut%20oil,%20potato%20starch,%20apple%20extract,%20sunflower%20and%20pomegranate.%20%20The%20astonishing%20%E2%80%9Cjuiciness%E2%80%9D%20of%20the%20burger%20comes%20from%20beet%20juice.%20One%20burger%20patty%20is%20270%20calories%20and%20has%205%20grams%20of%20saturated%20fat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20how%20does%20a%20Beyond%20Burger%20taste?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20am%20not%20going%20to%20say%20that%20I%20would%20never%20have%20known%20it%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20a%20genuine%20100%20percent%20all-beef%20patty%E2%80%94even%20if%20somebody%20else%20had%20ordered%20it%20for%20me.%20%20My%20first%20impression%20was%20surprise%E2%80%94as%20in%20surprisingly%20good%20to%20someone%20who%20grew%20up%20eating%20great%20Beef%20a%20great%20number%20of%20times%20in%20any%20given%20week.%20%20There%E2%80%99s%20the%20juiciness%20of%20a%20great%20burger.%20The%20texture%20is%20astonishingly%20close%20to%20the%20real%20thing.%20%20The%20only%20thing%20that%20my%20first%20Beyond%20Burger%20lacked%20was%20the%20aroma%20of%20real%20beef.%20%20That%20didn%E2%80%99t%20stop%20me%20from%20having%20another%20one%E2%80%94this%20time%20at%20home.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20to%20make%20a%20Beyond%20Burger%20indistinguishable%20to%20the%20real%20thing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20may%20sound%20unbelievable%20for%20someone%20as%20involved%20with%20food%20as%20I%20am,%20but%20I%20had%20no%20clue%20that%20our%20local%20supermarket%20stocked%20Beyond%20Burgers.%20%20But%20there%20they%20were,%20on%20special%20at%20$4.99%20for%20two%20patties.%20%20Those%20devils%20at%20Beyond%20Meat%20cleverly%20labelled%20the%20package%20two%20quarter%20pounders.%20That%E2%80%99s%204%20ounces.%20My%20ideal%20hamburger%20adheres%20to%20almost%20all%20the%20lyrics%20to%20the%20McDonald%20jingle:%20Special%20Sauce,%20Lettuce,%20Cheese,%20Tomato%20on%20a%20sesame%20seed%20bun.%20So%20that%E2%80%99s%20exactly%20what%20I%20made.%20And%20it%20was%20a%20winner%20in%20every%20way.%20Not%20the%20least%20of%20which%20is%20knowing%20that%20if%20you%E2%80%99re%20trying%20to%20save%20the%20planet%20by%20eating%20more%20plant-based%20meals,%20you%20really%20feel%20holier%20than%20thou%20eating%20a%20Beyond%20Burger.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20more%20thing%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJust%20last%20month,%20a%20Kentucky%20Fried%20Chicken%20restaurant%20in%20Atlanta,%20GA.%20put%20Beyond%20Fried%20Chicken%20on%20its%20menu.%20%20It%20sold%20out%20in%205%20hours.%20I%20just%20keep%20wondering%20when%20my%20Dirty%20Chicken%20at%20LT%20Burger%20becomes%20a%20Beyond%20Dirty%20Chicken%20which%20KFC%20in%20Atlanta%20tweeted%20is%20a%20%E2%80%9CKentucky%20Fried%20Miracle%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
