Ingredients

  • 1 (12 ounce.) pkg. green split peas
  • 5-6 c. water
  • 1 ham hock or possibly ham seasonings (plus meat) to taste
  • 4 diced carrots
  • 1 diced potato
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Rinse peas. Place all ingredients in large, covered pot of boiling water. Simmer for approximately 2 hrs or possibly till thickened. To serve, top with dollop of lowfat sour cream if you like. Yield: About 8 servings.
