Substituting your daily bread for low carb bread is the first thing you should do to take a step towards a more healthy lifestyle. Low carb inclusions in your diet help you to lower your blood pressure, lose some fat and weight, improve energy levels and reduce the craving for sweets. You can, of course, buy the bread at any bakery, but you can never really be sure about the ingredients in the bread. Given below is an easy low carb bread machine recipe that you can prepare at home and eat fresh.

  • Items needed:
  • 1 packet of active dry yeast (for bread machine)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar (this helps the yeast to rise but does not add to the calories of the bread)
  • 1 1/8 cups of warm water (just enough to be baby bottle warm i.e. about 100F)
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of white salt
  • 1 tablespoon of splenda (low cal sugar)
  • 1 cup of gluten free wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup of oat flour
  • 3/4 cup of soy flour
  • 1/4 cup of flaxseed meal (this is gluten free and good for lowering insulin levels in the blood)
  • 1/4 cup of unprocessed wheat barn

Directions

  1. Preparation:
  2. - Clean and dry the bread machine pan before use.
  3. - Add the water and sugar in the pan and stir to mix.
  4. - Pour in the yeast and stir a little. Let the mix stand for some time. You will notice that the yeast will start to bubble (if it does not then it means that the yeast is dead and you will have to replace it).
  5. - Sift all the dry ingredients together in a bowl.
  6. - Pour the dry ingredients in the bread machine pan.
  7. - Add the olive oil and close the lid of the machine.
  8. - Run on basic cycle for 3-4 hours for the bread to bake. If your bread machine instructions ask for different settings for gluten free bread then use those settings.
  9. - When the bread cycle completes, let the pan cool for some time before removing the bread. Let it cool completely before cutting in slices to serve.
  10. You can easily use this bread for making sandwiches, toasts etc. This bread also makes a great base for bread pizza, which your kids will surely love.
  11. You can use some substitutions for the bread as well:
  12. - Add sunflower seeds or sesame seeds in place of flax seeds.
  13. - Add rye flour in place of oat and soy flour.
