Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 2 lbs. lean grnd meat (grnd fine)
  • 2/3 c. low-fat evaporated lowfat milk
  • 1/2 c. Italian bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. minced onion (sauteed lightly first)
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon Accent (optional)
  • Pepper to taste
  • 2 c. (8 ounce.) grated cheddar or possibly American cheese

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients except cheese in large bowl. Slice loaf of French bread in half lengthwise and scoop out center. Butter lightly.
  2. Put in thin layers of meat mix, grated cheese, meat and end up with cheese. Wrap foil around bread only and bake in 350 degree oven about 30 min.
  3. If crisp top is desired, turn oven to broil for last couple of min, being careful not to let it burn. Cut to desired number of servings. Serve along with big tossed salad for easy supper. Serves 6-8.
