  • 6 slc whole wheat bread cut off the crust
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or possibly margarine softened
  • 1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 c. shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 1/2 c. cut up ham
  • 3 lrg Granny apples sliced, skinned Sugar combined with Cinnamon for apple slices
  • 1 1/4 x half-and-half (you can use part non-fat)
  • 8 x Large eggs - (to 10)
  • 1 Tbsp. mustard pwdr
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire

Directions

  1. Spread bread with butter. Arrange buttered slices in single layer in greased baking dish. Layer 1/2 cheese, ham, apples (with sugar and cinnamon). Top off with the cheese which is left.
  2. Combine half-and-half, Large eggs, mustard pwdr, and Worcestershire. Pour mix over strata. Cover, chill at least 6 hrs or possibly overnight.
  3. Bake, uncovered at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 min.
  4. This recipe yields 4 to 6 servings.
  5. Comments: This is a perfect make-ahead meal because it must be refrigerated for at least 6 hrs. So make it up the day before and chill overnight. Just pop it in the oven about an hour before brunch.
