.%20The%20martini%E2%80%99s%20rich%20American%20history%20is%20deserving%20of%20a%20toast%20%E2%80%93%20the%20cocktail%20dates%20back%20to%20the%201860s%20but%20its%20true%20origin%20is%20debated.%20One%20theory%20suggests%20it%20evolved%20from%20a%20cocktail%20called%20the%20%E2%80%9CMartinez%E2%80%9D%20served%20in%20the%20early%201860s%20in%20San%20Francisco,%20named%20after%20the%20nearby%20town%20of%20Martinez.%20Another%20theory%20links%20its%20creation%20to%20a%20NYC%20bartender%20named%20Martini%20di%20Arma%20di%20Taggia%20who%20served%20the%20cocktail%20in%201911%20at%20the%20Knickerbocker%20Hotel.%20Regardless%20of%20its%20origin,%20the%20martini%20quickly%20gained%20a%20strong%20and%20famed%20following%20including%20John%20D.%20Rockefeller,%20James%20Bond,%20Humphrey%20Bogart,%20Franklin%20D.%20Roosevelt,%20Clark%20Gable%20and%20Ernest%20Hemingway.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20popularity%20of%20vodka%20martinis%20are%20on%20the%20rise.%20While%20some,%20neigh%20many,%20might%20decry%20even%20calling%20a%20cocktail%20that%20consists%20of%20other%20than%20gin%20and%20vermouth%20a%20martini,%20I%20get%20it.%20I%20know%20several%20people%20who%20just%20can%20not%20stand%20the%20juniper%20component%20of%20gin,%20hence%20they%20%E2%80%98hate%20gin%E2%80%99%20but%20given%20the%20option%20of%20vodka%20it%E2%80%99s%20a%20different%20story.%20It%E2%80%99s%20the%20biting,%20bracing%20cold%20of%20the%20drink%20they%20love%20and%20yes,%20maybe%20the%20element%20of%20sophistication%20that%20few%20other%20drinks%20bring%20to%20the%20literal%20table.%20Although%20I%20love%20a%20gin%20and%20tonic%20in%20the%20summer,%20I%20am%20most%20definitely%20a%20%E2%80%98vodka%20martini%E2%80%99%20type%20and%20I%20like%20them%20simple,%20nothing%20dirty%20for%20me%20and%20if%20truth%20were%20told,%20it%E2%80%99s%20not%20the%20first%20cocktail%20I%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20order,%20never%20has%20been.%20This%20one%20has%20changed%20my%20mind,%20the%20Grey%20Goose%20VX%20Martini%20Exceptionnelle.%20Let%20me%20tell%20you%20why.%20It%E2%80%99s%20the%20Cognac!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20the%20good%20people%20at%20Grey%20Goose%20invited%20me%20to%20sample%20this%20new%20product%20I%20was%20told%20it%20was%20best%20served%20ice%20cold%20and%20straight%20up.%20It%E2%80%99s%20not%20the%20only%20cocktail%20served%20that%20way%20but%20for%20me,%20there%20would%20be%20little%20point%20in%20my%20posting%20about%20it,%20don%E2%80%99t%20you%20agree?%20Here%E2%80%99s%20the%20recipe.%20Stir%20with%20ice%20and%20strain%20into%20a%20chilled%20glass.%20I%E2%80%99m%20sure%20that%20would%20be%20not%20only%20disappointing%20for%20you%20but%20not%20much%20fun%20for%20me%20either;%20I%20love%20the%20making%20of%20the%20cocktail%20and%20the%20discovery%20of%20something%20new%20and%20fabulous%20by%20combining%20ingredients%20that%20I%20might%20not%20have%20considered%20before%E2%80%A6and%20boy%20does%20this%20Grey%20Goose%20VX%20Martini%20Exceptionnelle%20do%20just%20that!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWith%20GREY%20GOOSE%20VX,%20the%20French%20brand%20that%20launched%20a%20vodka%20empire,%20is%20literally%20turning%20to%20its%20wine%20roots.%20The%20new%20VX%20is%20made%20with%20a%20small%20measure%20of%20precious%20cognac,%20resulting%20in%20a%20luxurious%20new%20ultra-premium%20hybrid%20vodka%20that%20goes%20straight%20to%20the%20French%20heart%20of%20GREY%20GOOSE.%20Not%20really%20all%20that%20surprising%20as%20it%20was%20cognac%20expert%20Francois%20Thibault%20who%20created%20the%20original%20recipe%20for%20Grey%20Goose%20which%20is%20distilled%20using%20French%20wheat%20and%20bottled%20in%20Cognac,%20France.%20Thibault%20brought%20his%20cognac%20making%20experience%20to%20the%20forefront%20again%20and%20crafted%20GREY%20GOOSE%20VX%20(%E2%80%9Cvodka%20exceptionnelle%E2%80%9D)%20using%20eau%20de%20vies%20from%20grapes%20exclusively%20from%20Grande%20Champagne,%20the%20highest-quality%20cru%20in%20southwestern%20France.%20The%20eau%20de%20vie%20is%20distilled%20and%20then%20barrel%20aged%20for%20two%20years%20before%20it%20is%20blended%20with%20Grey%20Goose.%20The%20blend%20contains%20about%205%20percent%20cognac,%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20enough%20to%20impart%20a%20cognac%20nose%20and%20distinctive%20cognac%20flavors%20without%20edging%20out%20the%20vodka%20experience%20too%20far.%20%20The%20tasting%20notes%20of%20GREY%20GOOSE%20VX%20include%20hints%20of%20white%20fruit%20blossom,%20plum,%20apricot,%20light%20citrus%20and%20wild%20honey,%20followed%20by%20a%20long,%20lingering%20finish.%20I%20tasted%20some%20straight%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20subtle%20but%20also%20amazing.%20Vodka%20is%20well%20known%20for%20being%20odorless,%20colorless%20and%20sometimes%20almost%20tasteless%20but%20not%20with%20the%20GREY%20GOOSE%20XV;%20the%20cognac%20maybe%20be%20subtle%20but%20adds%20a%20wonderful%20richness%20that%20is%20quite%20evident.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThrough%20some%20discovery%20I%20learned%20that%20there%20was%20a%20new%20signature%20cocktail%20that%20was%20unveiled%20exclusively%20during%20th
