Great Grandma Rose's Banana Bread

Old family recipe making use of over ripe bananas and spoiled milk. I have omitted the spoiled milk and replaced it with fresh milk and vinegar.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs, beatened
  • 3 very ripe bananas, smashed
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar together.
  2. Add eggs and banana and beat well.
  3. Add flour, salt, baking soda, milk, vinegar and vanilla and mix in well.
  4. Stir in nuts.
  5. Pour into 2 well greased and floured loaf pans or 1 large casserole dish.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
