Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. lean beef (or possibly venison) cooked & minced in sm. pcs
  • 1 pound suet
  • 6 lbs. apple, peeled, cored & minced
  • 2 oranges, seedless, finely grate skins & chop pulp
  • 2 lbs. currants
  • 2 lbs. golden brown raisins
  • 4 lbs. dark raisins
  • 1/2 pound citron
  • 6 c. brown sugar
  • 4 c. sweet cider
  • 4 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp. each allspice, cinnamon & salt
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ginger

Directions

  1. Mix all together and simmer on low for about 2 hrs. Can be packed into Ball jars. However, I pack mine after cooling into freezer containers, measuring 1 pie filling into each container. This makes sufficient for 20 pies.
