Ingredients: 1 c. shortening; 4 large eggs, separated; 1 teaspoon soda; 1 teaspoon vanilla; 1 pkg. German sweet chocolate, 1/4 pound; 2 c. sugar; 1 c. buttermilk; 2 1/2 c. flour; 1/2 c. warm water; 1 c. plus 2 T Pet lowfat milk; 1 stick plus 2 T butter; 1 c. plus 2 T sugar; 3 or possibly 4 whole large eggs; 1 c. minced pecans; 1 c. coconut (optional)

Ingredients

1 c. shortening
4 large eggs, separated
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pkg. German sweet chocolate, 1/4 pound
2 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. warm water
1 c. plus 2 T Pet lowfat milk
1 stick plus 2 T butter
1 c. plus 2 T sugar
3 or possibly 4 whole large eggs
1 c. minced pecans
1 c. coconut (optional)

Directions

Cream shortening, slowly add in sugar. Add in egg yolks, one at a time. Sift flour. Mix soda in buttermilk. Heat chocolate in 1/2 cup of hot water, mix. Last mix in beaten egg whites. Makes 2-3 cake layers, greased and lightly floured, 350 degrees.
Put together and cook over low heat till thick. Add in nuts last.
