  1. Method:1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Grease one 8 inch pie pan.
  2. 2. Beat the egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar together till foamy.
  3. Gradually beat in the sugar and 1/2 tsp. of the vanilla. Beat on high speed till stiff and glossy. Mix in the minced pecans. Spoon meringue into the prepared pan forming a slight nest.
  4. 3. Bake at 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) for 50 to 55 min. Let cold completely.
  5. 4. While the crust is baking, heat the German chocolate with the water. Let cold till thickened. Stir in the remaining 1 tsp. of vanilla.
  6. 5. Whip the whipping cream and fold into the cooled chocolate mix. Pile into the cooled pie shell and chill.
  7. Makes 1 -8 inch pie
