Fruitcake Cookies (Women's Day) Recipe

  1. * Or possibly, to cut cost, can use 2 c. mixed candied fruits
  2. Cream butter and sugar. Beat Large eggs slightly and add in to butter and sugar. Sift flour and salt together, then fold into creamed mix. Stir in vanilla.
  3. Grease a 9x13-inch pan, sprinkle minced nuts on bottom, and add in batter. Sprinkle minced fruit over batter proportionately. Bake for 1 hour at 300 degrees. Slice into bars with a damp knife while hot; let cold, then remove from pan.
  4. NOTES : Charlene Bell of Mount Pleasant writes, "This recipe appeared in the December 1971 issue of Woman's Day. I use it every year at Christmas." These cookies store well and ship well, the recipe says. (as published in the Charleston Post & Courier, Sept. 24, 2000)
