%20that%20I%20have%20so%20far%20read,%20my%20favorite%20is%20How%20to%20Cook%20a%20Wolf,%20which,%20I%20believe,%20illustrates%20well%20the%20qualities%20that%20make%20her%20writing%20enchanting.%20After%20spending%20three%20years%20in%20France%20with%20her%20first%20husband,%20she%20came%20back%20to%20the%20United%20States%20in%201932.%20Five%20years%20later%20she%20published%20her%20first%20book,%20Serve%20it%20Forth.%20In%201941%20came%20Consider%20the%20Oyster,%20followed,%20in%201942,%20by%20How%20to%20Cook%20a%20Wolf,%20described%20by%20James%20Beard%20as%20%E2%80%9Cher%20brilliant%20approach%20to%20wartime%20economies%20for%20the%20table.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20purchased%20Fisher%E2%80%99s%20The%20Art%20of%20Eating%20a%20few%20years%20ago%20when%20I%20realized%20I%20could%20not%20be%20a%20quintessential%20foodie%20without%20having%20read%20her%20works.%20%20%20%20%20I%20was%20excited%20for%20another%20opportunity%20to%20delve%20into%20her%20delicious%20wit%20and%20revisit%20How%20to%20Cook%20a%20Wolf.%20%20%20%20%20This%20book%20of%20frugality%20(and%20common%20sense)%20during%20the%20lean%20years%20of%20%20WWII%20is%20pertinent%20today%20and%20many%20of%20her%20tips%20and%20ideas%20are%20echoed%20by%20locavores%20and%20modern%20chefs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHer%20wry%20sense%20of%20humor,%20and%20dare%20I%20say%20snarkiness,%20is%20endearing%20and%20I%20started%20thinking%20about%20other%20food%20professionals%20I%20love%20with%20the%20same%20dry%20wit.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESegue%20alert:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20can%20imagine%20Anthony%20Bourdain%20interviewing%20Fisher%20on%20one%20of%20his%20television%20shows.%20%20%20My%20imagination%20runs%20wild%20and%20I%20can%20just%20think%20of%20Fisher%E2%80%99s%20take%20on%20some%20of%20the%20new%20food%20trends.%20%20%20%20What%20would%20her%20comments%20be%20regarding%20gourmet%20food%20trucks,%20molecular%20gastronomy,%20and,%20dare%20I%20say%20it,%20food%20blogs?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20would%20she%20think%20about%20Bourdain%20himself?%20%20%20%20Would%20they%20team%20up?%20%20The%20more%20I%20think%20about%20this,%20the%20more%20I%20envision%20it:%20%20%20Anthony%20and%20Mary%20Frances%E2%80%94On%20the%20Road.%20%20%20(Too%20bad%20this%20will%20never%20be.%20%20%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20think%20they%20even%20ever%20met.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20what%20about%20David%20Chang%20(Mind%20of%20a%20Chef%20)?%20%20%20I%20can%20envision%20him%20having%20deep%20conversations%20with%20Fisher%20over%20some%20sort%20of%20adult%20beverage.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EImagine%20all%20three%20together%20in%20the%20same%20conversation%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut,%20I%20digress.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFisher%20would%20appreciate%20this%20frugality.%20Everything%20is%20from%20our%20garden:%20Zucchini,%20red%20onion,%20garlic,%20pesto%20basil.%20Alas,%20the%20tomato%20came%20from%20the%20FM.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20am%20so%20glad%20that%20Simone%20recommended%20this%20book.%20%20%20I%20was%20reading%20the%20revised%20edition%20with%20Fisher%E2%80%99s%20notes%20in%20brackets%20throughout.%20%20Her%20insight%20nine%20years%20later%20is%20full%20of%20self-deprecating%20humor%20and%20even%20more%20culinary%20truths.%20I%20loved%20her%20frankness:%20%20%20%E2%80%9COne%20of%20the%20stupidest%20things%20in%20an%20earnest%20but%20stupid%20school%20of%20culinary%20thought%20is%20that%20each%20of%20the%20three%20daily%20meals%20should%20be%20balanced%E2%80%9D%20(4).%20%20%20Say%20what%20you%20mean,%20Ms.%20Fisher.%20%20%20%20Do%20you%20think%20this%20practice%20is%20unwise?%20%20%20(She%20is%20not%20one%20to%20mince%20words.%20%20%20I%20love%20it.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut,%20let%E2%80%99s%20consider%20the%20egg%20for%20this%20post.%20%20%20Her%20chapter,%20%E2%80%9CHow%20Not%20to%20Boil%20an%20Egg,%E2%80%9D%20is%20poetic.%20%20%20She%20writes%20that%20the%20egg%20is%20the%20most%20private%20of%20things;%20that%20is,%20until%20it%20is%20cracked.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUntil%20then,%20you%20would%20think%20its%20secrets%20are%20its%20own,%20hidden%20behind%20the%20impassive%20beautiful%20curvings%20of%20its%20shell,%20white%20or%20brown%20or%20speckled.%20%20(54)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20hope%20she%20would%20approve%20of%20these%20farm%20fresh%20eggs.%20%20%20Zucchini%20and%20garlic%20from%20our%20gardens.%20%20%20Eggs%20from%20the%20FM.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrittata%20of%20Zucchini%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUpdated%20slightly%20from%20MFK%20Fisher%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20oil%20in%20a%20medium%20saute%20pan%20and%20cook%20onions%20and%20garlic%20until%20soft.%20%20%20%20Add%20zucchini%20and%20peppers%20and%20continue%20to%20saute%20until%20soft.%20%20Season%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20vegetables%20to%20a%20paper%20towel%20lined%20plate%20to%20cool.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBeat%20eggs%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper%20and%20Parmesan.%20%20%20%20%20%20Mix%20in%20cooked%20vegetables,%20tomatoes%20and%20basil.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20into%20a%20hot%20skillet%20and%20stir%20a%20couple%20of%20times.%20%20%20%20Cover%20and%20let%20it%20cook%20on%20low%20heat.%20%20%20%20Pla
