Unique gourmet variation of French Toast. Can be eaten with maple syrup but good enough to eat alone. Can be made the morning of or soaked overnight maximum absorption.
Ingredients
- 6 eggs
- 1 orange
- 1/3 cup milk
- 3 tbs sugar
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 loaf French Bread
- 3 tbs butter
- Powdered sugar
- Maple Syrup if desired
Directions
- Beat eggs in large bowl
- Finely grate peel of the orange and add to bowl
- Juice orange into separate container & add 2/3 cup juice to bowl
- Add milk, sugar, vanilla and salt and mix well
- Slice bread into 8 3/4 inch slices
- Dip bread slices into egg mixture until mixture is absorbed
- Melt butter in large skillet over medium-high heat
- Add bread slices in batches and cook until brown, about 8 minutes
- Turn and continue cooking until browned, about 8 minutes
- Slice bread, arrange on platter & sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve
