Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 2/3 c. melted shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 c. mashed potatoes
  • 1 c. scalded lowfat milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 6 c. flour
  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 3 T cocoa
  • 1/3 c. lowfat milk
  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/3 c. orange juice

Directions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water. Put together sugar and shortening with mashed potatoes. Add in scalded lowfat milk and large eggs. When mixed, add in yeast and finally, add in flour. Let rise in a warm place, till double in bulk (takes about 1 1/2 hrs). Then roll dough, and let rise again for about 1 hour.Cut with donut cutter and fry in deep fat. When donuts are cool, shake in a bag with powdered sugar. Or possibly, if desired glazed donuts, you may glaze them with the following.
